Took a little highway trip to Eastern Washington to go backpacking.

While I do run bio, the truck suffers in the mileage department. Bio doesnt produce the same BTU per unit as normal diesel. If youre looking to maximise your mileage stick with normal diesel and use a good fuel additive.

Discipline! 57 MPH on cruise (1700rpm) mirrors folded in and the antenna off (Sat radio).

If I kept to the freeway I bet it would be another 700+ mile tank.

that's pretty darn good. I won't do all that but i use satellite radio too and took off my antenna. I don't fold in mirrors because i like them to see around me. I have seen EVIC report 33 mpg in the highway keeping my rpm under 2000 with out cruise

I like the check engine light !

Classic.

That's freaking phenomenal !!!

If I can get half of that I'll be super-happy. I can see myself doing the mirror trick on the highway, not the antenna, need the radio.....

Willy.

You get that by unplugging your EGR.

I just drove from the east coast of Florida to the West coast of Florida. I noted that the fuel gauge was in the exact same place as your. But we already had 1100 miles on that tank of diesel. Went we got home it was at 1400 miles and the gauge went to 3/4 exact.

Of course striperman is right I am burning WVO and the Jeep loves it. Grease is not for everybody but that is why we love our Jeep. Everything has risk.

So youre trying to tell me you got 1400 miles on ONE tank of fuel? I dont care what your burning, that's 70+ MPG and that's not possible!

Sorry. As its been said before, these trucks are "Bricks" being pushed through our atmosphere. 70mpg with this vehicle is not possible.

I believe all the lights are on because he has the ignition in the aux mode; the motor isn't on....

55mpg's in your CRD is impossible also.Your fuel gauge is off or your ODO is wrong.

Actually I filled the tank this evening I went 1415 miles and used 6.8 gallons of diesel and that works out to 208 mpg. But that does not count the 3 times I filled the Veg oil tank mounted on the back of the truck. That fuel is free. The fuel guage in the dash does not move when burning WVO in a two tank system which is what I have. Really we are probably getting low 20's for each gallon of fuel burned driving 80 on the highway and stop and go traffic. But my wallet only registers the 208. Normally I only get 170 mpg the 208 was a good tank.

The longer the trip the less diesel that gets used and the more veg oil that gets used. The system is you start on diesel when it is hot you switch to grease and burn grease. When it is time to stop you flush the grease out of the system with diesel. This weekend I drove one miles and switched to grease then I drove 110 miles to our destination then I turned the grease off. Turn out we burn only one gallon of diesel every 208 miles.

On a side note the best non hybrid system mpg was in a 2000 Chevy Corvette. I was traveling on a long slow road and set the cruise control at 47 mph we got 49 mpg on that trip. It was idling down the road in 6th gear.

Greasy,

when my CRD comes back from the shop, I will be converting it to run on VO with an Elsbett VO system that I picked up from a member who decided to sell his CRD before installing it.

Ok, I call BS.

I don't care what special additive you have in the fuel, it did not
help you get 300 miles on your first quarter tank.
I think you forgot to reset your trip ODO at your last fuel up.

If if I were to assume that your trip ODO is in fact accurate
then you are in for a big surprise when you hit 600 miles and
and the gauge suddenly drops to empty.

The fuel gauges on these Jeeps are seriously F-ed up.
A half tank should be ten gallons right?
Go ahead, run your tank to empty, add ten gallons and see
where the fuel gauge needle lies.
It WILL be somewhere between 3/4 and 1/2 full. Usually closer
to 3/4.

On my CRD, with a full tank I will go 100 miles before the
needle comes off F. At 200 miles I'm at 3/4 full. At 300
miles I'm at 1/2 full.
So I should be getting 30 mpg, right?
Wrong!
At 500 miles the low fuel light comes. Pull off to get fuel
and add 20 gallons to the tank. Thats 25 mpg!

Even if I correct for the measured 4% ODO error thats
still only 26 mpg.

Look, I realize that 30-34 mpg is not impossible for the
CRD. But please wait until you have reached the end of
the tank and filled up before posting your amazing mpgs.

Sorry, I meant to say 57 MPH. Not 57 MPG.

Sorry Flash you insult me. Of course I reset my trip meter. Ive gotten over 750 miles on a tank before. This isnt the first time Ive been at 300 on a quarter tank. Just because you cant do it doesnt mean I cant. Do you fold in your mirrors and drive at 57 mph at 1700 RPM for HOURS? I do.

Yeah no one has ever gone past the 40mpg mark, your not going to blast past it with 55+.More so after adding a few hundred pounds of SkidRow skid plates.Mirrors folded in or not and even at 500rpm's doing 5mph.

Of course I wouldnt claim that. Read the sentence with context. I was asked how Im getting that kind of mileage. 57 MPH at 1700 RPM.... Not 57 MPG......

324 miles on 1/4 tank.

You have a 20.5 gallon tank, your claiming just over 55mpg's.
