transmission recall

can anyone here tell me the company policy on recalls.
i have an 05 that has started to give me the transmission slip at startup issue. it has never been sent back for the recall but with this amout of time and milage will the stealer sitll honner the recall. your thoughs

It's been to long the dealer might look at it but it's doubtful

go to jeep.com and type in the last 8 digits of the vin -
if it shows an outstanding recall - the dealership should honor it.

As I understand it a recall must be honored, if not already done, regardless of mileage or warranty status.

True, recalls dont expire.

I just reread the original post and realized our answers may not be on point. The transmission recall was F-37 and involved an ECU flash to reduce torque and hence load demand on the torque convertor (don't get me started on detuning an engine to "fix" a weak TC as opposed to the proper fix which is install a TC that can handle the engine output - bean counters are such a pain) AND under certain circumstances a new, but still not great, TC. As I understand it the early CRD TCs failed rather quickly, most all of those got new TCs, while later ones lasted longer but could exhibit shudder, not slip, prior to the ECU flash and those got new TCs if and only if the TC was diagnosed as having the shudder problem. Answers on this post are correct; check the Jeep site with your VIN to see if there are any outstanding recalls. If not the deal has to honor them.

However, you mention transmission slip at startup. If by slip you mean the transmission won't fully engage immediately after startup after sitting like overnight or all day at work that is not related to the F-37 issue. Typically this type of slip is due to tranny fluid draining out of the TC due to a bad or worn valve in one of the tranny filters. TSB 21-007-06 APR 06 addresses this issue but the dealer will not do this service for free unless you are still under the 2005 7/70 or other extended warranty. The TSB is nothing special all it says is service the tranny (if you DIY be sure to use ATF+4 fluid) with upgraded filters (if you DIY do NOT buy cheap filters off eBay as some of the bad ones are still out there; get like the WIX 58843 filter and gasket kit). You can avoid this type of slip if when you first crank up you put the car in neutral, not park, (foot on the brake of course) and bring the idle up to about 1,500 rpms for like 15 sec which will refill the TC.
