Post subject:  Safety tied boost hose clamps

I had a boost hose pop off for first time this morning while driving home from work. Almost lost the hose clamp preventing a quick roadside fix.
I now have each hose clamp at the intercooler teathered with a wire tie to prevent the clamp from falling into the engine skid plate or on the highway.
I'm using Boost Controller brand clamps which are good, but with the extra thick spongy feel of the Samco's, it is difficult to judge if I'm getting them clamped down tight enough. I'm very afraid of over tightning and breaking the plastic intercooler fittings.

Samcos and samco clamps, never had a problem. Key seems to be slip clamps on hoses; mount hoses; carefully check hose routing for rub spots and adjust as needed (Samcos lack the factory witness marks); slide clamps to proper location taking care to make absolutely sure each clamp is fully past the bulge at the end of the fitting and on the main body of the fitting; tighten snug (not godzilla) using nut driver or ratchet/socket not a screw driver; check and retighten a couple of times in the next 50 miles or so.

Those plastic fittings are pretty sturdy but it is critical for the clamps to be fully on the fitting. I did a pretty good crush job on my airbox air hose fitting because I didn't pay that close attention.

Good advice that I have followed, except for maybe not tightening the clamps enough. A Provent is probably the ultimate solution as oil is always creeping from under the hose connections making them slippery.
