Post subject:  Leaking transmission lines
While installing my new RockfatherII lift into my CRD, I noticed transmission fluid coating an awful lot of the underside out front. After cleaning it up with engine degreaser, I took it for a ride and it looks like it's leaking from the cooler line connections or maybe even the cooler. Is this common? My mechanic seems to think it the cooler and also suggests replacing the transmission lines as well. The cooler lists for $400 and I have no idea what the lines and labor will cost.
My question is has anyone else had this problem? Could it be as simple as the connection leaking? It looks like it is just slid into the connector and held there with a clip. Do the lines corrode? They don't look it. Do the coolers go bad? There is no physical damage to it that can be seen.

Go with a B&G 72068 cooler, disconnect the stock trans cooler and ignore it. If you replace it, you will have to shell out for an Evac/Recharge of the AC system. lines are painted steel, nothing special.

X2 sort of. With everything clean take a careful look to see where the leak is; you might even want to add some UV dye to the tranny fluid. If it's just the connections there are likely solutions.

Otherwise yeh install an aftermarket tranny cooler just behind the grill, there are several suggested installs on the forum or check http://liberty.eurekaboy.com/transcooler.htm . Not a CRD specific issue; most all vehicles combine the tranny cooler with either the radiator or AC evaporator; stuped bean counter solution. If the tranny cooler portion fails the best solution is shift over to an aftermarket; don't try to repair/replace that combo unit (just makes the stealer happy).

Now if you are an old fart like me that remembers real copper radiators and local radiator shops; in the bad old days that leak could be fixed for next to nothing but today we are stuck with the wonders of plastic and aluminium.

Check closely again. You may only need to replace the quick connect fittings which thread into the cooler. I have noticed that the hard lines are loose in the fittings on mine but the o-rings are still sealing. I did have to replace the short sections of rubber hose as they were loose and leaking where they are clamped to the hard lines. The hoses are not long enough to to flex with the engine.

Where you find those fitting? Can't get them OEM from the "stealer" here.
