I am looking for a glow plug chaser.
I can buy a standard straight M10 x 1.0 tap but is there any chance of the glow plugs having a pipe thread?
No guesses please
I only have one shot at this.

Squeeto, what happened? I can tell you from last week's experience that the last glow plug I pulled (the bad one) had 6 months of diesel residue to fully seal it into position. I after the threads were obviously clear (light and mirror), I then wrench it out by turning it with a socket and putting a TREMENDOUS amount of force on the plug behind the thread with a standard blade (flat) screw driver. It eventually came out to MUCH relief and the new one went in fine. I thought I'd bought the farm before I decided to hell with it and that it was coming out... B2 |

I got the #2 plug out with freeze spray. It was reading over 200 ohms. I can happily report that the tip is intact  ; no pieces of ceramics bouncing around.The thread chaser is probably a good thing to finish with just as long as I keep the shavings out of the cylinder. |

Use a metric thread gauge and vernier caliper on a glow plug. |

B2 I threw a P1263 trouble code with engine light. I measured the resistance on #2 glow plug to be over 200 ohms. I knew that the element was was bad but my fear was that it was bad due to shattering. The sooner I replace these demons the better. No fear mongering intended! Hey, even Bosch won't make these any more.  Edit: Maybe you mean why chase them out? I think that this is a good practice for glow plugs after the first 50k miles. If the threads are fine, you won't be removing much metal anyway. |

My #1 GP died the first week of July. It happens. I just got it replaced with the 5V "upgrade". Seems to be doing as it should. Just need to work on the re-image with Keith. Glad it worked out. I thought you were swatting a fly with a hammer like I almost did.... B2 |

I think that the controllers are the same for both 5 and 7 volt systems so the only concern is any dealer update is going to roll in the 5 volt fix. But it has been suggested that it is unlikely there will be any more updates anyway. |

Pack your tap flutes with grease so any chips are trapped and don't go into the engine. After reading all the saga with the 5V glow plugs along with lots of crappy flashes the TDI PD crowd had, your plan to put in 1- 7V glow plug and wait for the 7 volt metal ones is a great Idea! I will buy a set of metal tipped 7V glow plugs as soon as they hit the online warehouse. I really don't want to make my Jeep into a FIAT by going to the Steeler

I was thinking I might pack a little cheese cloth (easily hooked later) into the hole,  and vacuum out any shards. There does seem to be a cavity after the threads. I worry that grease would keep some of the metal in the engine. I will tackle this tomorrow so I am totally up for suggestions. |

I am almost positive I won't be able to find a 10x1.0 chaser but I also may not have to use a tap after all.
