Had a turbo hose fail on my '05 Liberty in August and came upon this website while researching hoses. I did the MAP, MAF and EHM and replaced the turbo hoses with purdy yellow ones.

The jeep definitely increased power and fuel economy about 1.5 mpg. Turbo lag was also reduced. Recently (about 1000 miles since the modifications) I noticed a lag when accelerating from a stop along with a large cloud of black smoke and I cannot hear the turbo "whistle" when accelerating. I have plenty of power, perhaps even more than before. Any thoughts?

If you let off the pedal, then go back into it, did the CRD then accelerate away normally? If so - That is exactly what my current turbo has behaved like since new. There is something wrong with mine, I suspect that the turbo shaft might be vibrating or sticking somehow. My solution is going to include a full replacement of this turbo with one that I rebuild, and eventually an upgrade turbo from Green Diesel Engineering.

Not sure if that would be your problem as well, but we will be happy to help you diagnose it.

Hearing loss?
Boost gauges are a cost effective solution.
All kidding aside, higher frequencies like turbo sound are the first to go.
Most likely the fix where you replaced the boost hoses muffled the noise.
Open up the exhaust to a straight 2 1/2" by getting rid of the cat to muffler restriction flange and the crappy stock muffler, you will see & feel more.

Try bypassing the boost pressure solenoid and see if that helps. If it does replace solenoid. If you want a picture of how send me an email. If a verbal description will do GDE says GDE's writeup for this says "By-passing of the on/off solenoid is very straight forward. Trace the vacuum line output from the black plastic reservoir to the input of the on/off solenoid. Remove this vacuum line and plug it directly into the turbo EVM on the port labeled "VAC". The turbo EVM is the one with the blue rubber isolator and vacuum line running directly to turbo."

Also check turbo van function. Per GDE "You can check the vane functionality at idle in park. Underneath the vacuum actuator on the turbo is rod extending downward connected to the vane mechanism. If you pull off the vacuum line at the turbo, the arm should drop about 1/2 inch and then raise back up after reconnecting the vacuum line. It is a bit difficult to see the rod, but this is the easiest method to check for proper VGT vane moevment."

Not that it's worth much but I only hear turbo whistle during the first mile or so after crankup. I haven't seen a black acceleration cloud since soon after I got the GDE tune but I sure had it before then.

I had the smoke when I first got mine. It was a combo of bad t-stat (cold engine) and egr. Have you tried just unplugging the MAF?

Yesterday, I lost the turbo completely. In looking at things this afternoon, the EHM hose was kinked, restricting flow - could this have been causing my problems? I am going to replace the hose as soon as I can get to town. Hopefully thats the problem.
