I have all parts in and i have a quick question. The previous owner used 3" spacers with the stock setup. My blistiens came in with an aluminum bottom retainer (as seen below)

Do i need to use the stock coil isolator (part 52088686aa)?

You need the stock isolator.

Looks like a nice set-up.

Exactly the route I am planning to go in the near future.

Could you elaborate on the expected lift height and which Bilsteins they are? TIA.

I replaced my rear bilsteins w/ ome... good luck! They rode fine, I just didn't like how they weren't an exact fit.

arengant,

What do you mean by "they weren't an exact fit" ?

Which bilstiens did you buy?

I went with the longer ones, which had to come from a dodge durango or dakota. This means that the bottom and top mounting eyelets were too narrow. here is the link from when I did mine...

Went I went back to the OME (that fit perfect) I had a hard time bending the sheet metal BACK to the original shape to fit them. So far the only mod I regret doing :)

Good info. Although I like a firm ride, I may have to rethink the Bilsteins.

They are great on all my other vehicles, but if they don't have a CRD/Jeep lift specific damper, maybe that's not the case here.

They do have one, but not a longer one for lifted jeeps. You don't NEED a longer shock, so you could get the stock rear bilsteins, but your rear wheel travel would be limited. This might not be a big deal, depends on what you use the jeep for.

As someone (Tom or Try) on here said, Bilstein is a great company, they have great products, but their OEM quality had started to slip. If you go any of the higher end rear shocks it would be worth it.

I need to install a set of those Bilsteins in the near future on a buddies KJ...think I can use the sleeves from his dead OME shocks?

What sleeves are you referring to?

I only did the front. The rear still has what i believe is a stock shock and coil with daystar spacers. In the front i used OME 790 springs with Blistein D916HO shocks.

Tony, the metal sleeve would fit inside the Bilstein bushing, BUT do not use it.

The eyelet on the Bilsteins from the rear Dakota/or durango are narrower than the stock KJ rear shocks. You can make them fit by torquing them down, which in turns pinches the sheet metal bracket that they mount to. Some people claim it works, or they put in washers as spacers (I did both, but the rubber bushing went bad (replaced that too) and I was STILL getting a bad rattle from the rear shock)

Well, that just sucks donkey balls.

My Rancho Dakota shocks are great with just a little washer on each side and no rattles. But they don't make them anymore...darn...

Why not go OME rear? Are they harder to get?

Post subject:  Re: OME Lift install question

If your lifting you need longer rear shocks, even the the OME N132's are longer then stock. To bad Rancho discontinued the RS series as the 17004's were a perfect shock for a heavy KJ.

If you want a firmer shock or the ability to choose your valving(and can have it re-valved if you want) try the 12" short body Bilstein 7100 series shock,it's the correct length for a lifted KJ and have a choice of 6 valvings and is completely rebuildable.Yeah there about $280 each and take 3-4 weeks to get(custom made for each customer) but worth it.

No 132L overhere...

The 132L came out as an All-J's special order from OME - I think I've seen one or two other shops start stocking them - but it wasn't a regular OME part.

Post subject:  Re: OME Lift install question

I have a quick questions as well. I installed the frankenlift yesterday and was a little confused on the rear brake line relocation. How is everyone keeping the line from rubbing, I assume a slight bend by hand to keep it clear of all obstructions? Also, I assume the line to be dropped is drivers side near side of fuel tank as that seemed to me to be the only one that would be affected by the lift/flexing.

Thanks.
