Going to buy an exchange ECO tune but thinking while at it do the transmission tune as well. Worth it for my girls DD? I do plan on putting lift an 31 all terrains on it soon so any power helps. I figure do a full lock Eco setup trans an all?

If not keep simple with just tune. How is swapping tcm? Never read anything on it.

On swapping the TCM see http://www.greendieselengineering.com/f ... st/91.page

I found it helpful to improve access by removing the 2 screws that hold the black vacuum canister (just behind the air filter box) so I could move that canister out of the way. Those screws are really hard to reach so unless you have a long magnetic screwdriver you may need to remove the airbox.

Be advised that the electical plug is on the TCM extremely tightly at least mine took a lot of prying and wiggling to get it off. Also when you reinstall the plug be very careful tightening the hold down bolt, be gentle, do it in steps pushing the plug in as you go, when it's all the way in IMMEDIATELY STOP tightening it. That bolt screws into a rather fragile place such that over stress can "spin" the other end making future removal a real challenge.

So would you say overall it's worth the 300 bucks to have tuned for the girls DD or just leave alone w Eco tune

The EcoTune gives you the biggest bang for the buck. Pretty much cuts out EGR, my black smoke cloud on acceleration disappeared, ca. 20% improvement in mpg in town and highway, etc. I'm glad I got the TCM tune but I think it's biggest benefit, given my type/style of driving, has been in town stop and go traffic top speed ca. 45 mph where the early shifts and TC lockup have probably added about 1 mpg. On the hwy it's main benefit is final lock up has been returned to ca. 58 mph or about where it was per F-37. That didn't mean too much to me as my F-37 did not include the TCM reflash so I still had the pre F-37 shift points. On the other hand my son stoutdog has been really happy to get rid of the F-37 shift points (that run up to ca. 63 mph for final lockup so you can drop back to 60 at a decent rpm was a pain) but his driving in Tempe AZ while in grad school tends to be on faster roads than here at home.

Bottom line if you have to choose between the 2 get the EcoTune and if/when you have $300 that you don't want/need to throw at other things (battery, tires, brakes, Samco hoses, etc) then get the TCM tune.

I never did understand the benefit of the TCM tune for those that run mostly highway, like myself. Personally f37 works great because it keeps the rpm's Just at or under 2000 rpms at 75(fastest i'll go) for great fuel mileage. if i had pre f37 or the TCM tune, id be running 2200 and destroying mileage with the turbo at full boost constantly.

also, I plan on just going with the eco tune, because as indigo said, it has the biggest bang for its buck.

The GDE TCM tunes do not affect gearing. At 75 MPH, constant throttle, both GDE TCM tunes and OEMs are in 5th with the TC locked up. So, your tach could be a little off, but none of the TCM tunes will change your rpms at 75 MPH in a steady state.

Our trans tune set up for fuel economy mainly benefits you between 35-52mph as in this zone you have the torque converter locked, thus providing fuel economy benefits. Above 58mph is acts similar to the pre-f37 stock trans tune. However, the GDE tune tends to hold lockup at deeper throttle input to make use of the extra torque produced from our engine tunes. This added lockup range is great for towing and helps keep the tranny fluid temps lower. We notice about an 8% gain in city driving fuel economy with the trans tune. In terms overall driving experience and fuel economy our engine ECO tune is definitely the biggest bang for the buck.

X2 more or less on RPMs and on GDE's comment. I've owned and/or driven 2005 Sport pre and post F-37 TCM detune; 2005 Limited F-37 tranny but no F-37 TCM detune and with GDE TCM tune; and 2006 Limited post F-37 detune and with GDE TCM tune.

Once you are in final lockup in any of those vehicles and over about 64mph the rmps are identical within the instrumentation range of error. Below 64mph there are what "appear" to be differences. I stress "appear" because those differences don't or wouldn't exist but for the gear and state of lockup you are in.

For example a 2005 or 2006 with the F-37 detune when slowly brought up to 60mph will show a higher rpm than an identical vehicle without the F-37 detune or with the GDE TCM tune. Thats because in the first example those vehicles never reached the speed necessary (62 or so mph) to get into final lockup while in the second example full lockup occured at about 58mph. If you ran those first example vehicles up to 62 for so mph and reached full lockup and then dropped back to 60mph there would be no difference in rpms from those in the second example. Confused at a higher level now.

As a practical matter there probably is no benefit from the GDE TCM tune for those who consistently run 64mph or higher on the highway, with the possible exception of towing and holding gear on hills, as your vehicle is in full lockup and the RPMs are identical with or without the GDE TCM tune. If on the otherhand you run 60-62mph the GDE TCM tune gets to and holds that range and a good bit lower much better than a F-37 detuned TCM.

In town it's a different story as higher gears and lockup are reached much sooner with the GDE TCM tune hence operational rpms are lower because of the higher gear the vehicle is in.

Jeep is my wife's DD and she's been running it w/ just the ECO tune for awhile now and has been very happy over stock. I just ordered the TCM as she's been complaining about a harsh 3-4 shift at light throttle. I'm hoping that the lock-lock shift w/ GDE's tune will fix this. So all that to say, def get the ECO tune. TCM I would consider optional. I'll post in the "harsh 2-3 shift" thread on whether the GDE TCM tune fixes this problem.

I have TWO TCM's  One PRE F37 and one POST F37 :goink:
I also have a Euro TC and the GDE Full torque tune :JEEPIN:
When towing our 3500# travel trailer the F37 and it's highter shift points makes for a better combination with very little downshifting :jester:
Towing with the Pre F37 TCM there is a lot of downshifting :furious:
For my normal driving that is mainly short trips and in the city the Pre F37 TCM gives me better fuel mileage :2cents:
I just wish it was easier to swap them. I find taking out the air cleaner box makes the job less difficult :banghead:

I have both full-torque ECM and TCM tune from GDE... Just love the behavior of shifting pattern over the stock F37 TCM. Also (and others may correct me on this if I'm wrong), I believe having the TCM tune also frees up the extra HP/torque from ECM that were held down by the stock transmission program. The only slight downside is the more harsh shift between speeds. Before getting the TCM tune, I ran for a while with the full-torque then did the Transgo shift kit mod... This provided the smoothest shifting I ever experienced on the Libby, almost imperceptible. I was tempted to leave it has is, but the TCM tune had, in my view, too many benefits on the long run...
