Hi, I am brand new to the forum and the Jeep world. I have an 06 Liberty crd. I have many plans for the Jeep. I come from a background of building performance imports( mainly nissan z's and 240sx's) but have done some v8 builds also. Brand new to diesels but have a good idea about the workings. I have done my fair share of pcm tuning and plan to examine the workings of a diesel motors pcm one day.I have some reluctance when it comes to other peoples fingers in my ecu maps. Im sure many can relate. Well, I look forward to learning more about this world from all of you and maybe help some people along the way. here is my problem.

So I found a 3.5 in lift on craigslist for cheap, but the problem is I have an 06 kj. I dont know if the kit will still fit. if anyone knows please msg me. I would like to pick it up this weekend.
One other question, Is there a manual transmission for the kj? I have an auto and would like to get a manual. Does it exist and has anyone done the swap?

Ask the seller what brand the lift kit is. There are a couple people will recommend you stay away from. Also, most Liberty lift kits are advertised as 2 or 2 1/2" so that would red flag it for me. 03 should work on an 06, but the gasser kits are a little different than the CRD. The CRD kits usually have higher spring rated springs for the front.

I moved your post to our CRD section, in here you are better of then 'out' there with the petrolheads :)

3.5" lift is probably the worthless Rought Country stuff. You cannot lift a CRD with just anything on the market, our leftside front CV is much shorter then the gasser ones so beware.

And.....welcome!

There are five and six speed manual CRD's...but that was export only...Sir Sam is adapting a CRD engine to a NV3550 (iirc) for his Comanche build.

Welcome aboard. Recommend you read Sir Sam's NOOB guide. I don't have a lift but most of the chat I've seen on the forum indicates 1.5" is a decent lift amount and the vehicle can handle a 2" lift if it's well designed/built but beyond that you are getting into questionable territory. As noted the manual was export only, don't know if that included the Canadian market, and I imagine if you found the material you could do a retrofit. I've seen some chat but don't know if anyone has pulled one off. As I recall GDE indicated the ECU would have to be reflashed to handle an manual transmission.

Thanks for all the help guys. I am assuming the diesel has a different spline on the cv then the petrol so i probably couldnt just chang that with it could i? Im putting 30s on it this weekend, i haven't read the lift/tires post but im hoping thay wont be too big of a prob. And thanks for moving my post. I read that the crd tech was dor writeups only.

Welcome!

It's not the spline, but the length. the Diff itself is lower (and offset to the side) to make room for the taller engine.

While we lose CV angle on one side, the other is actually longer than the gassers.

I personally think getting just one side "cut" down and maybe using a limiting strap, you could easily go as tall as a gasser ~ 3 inches total.

Good luck! Where are you at by the way?

15e... I know some UAV guys from white sands...
