A few years back, We bought a 05 Honda Odyssey that developed a severe trany shutter problem in OD TC lock up at about 1700-1900 rpms. It was so bad, you would think the motor was going to break loose and bounce off the pavement and up through the hood! The Oddy club.com was chock full of folks with this problem in the 05-10 model years and like Jeep, they had 2 trans reflashes (didnt work for all) out and finaly a new TC change out. Since my van was way out of warrenty I was debating what to do untill 2 guys posted how 3 Amsoil trany changes flat out fixed the entire shutter issue. Like F-37, milage friendly TC lock up lugging was gone along with a reported 2-3 mpg in the new Honda reflash. Rather than go the reflash, I did 3 Amsoil change outs and bingo, the shutter was flat out gone! I put thousands of out of state vacation driving on that last Amsoil fill and by God I could no longer get that shutter to happen. The van shifts super smooth and holds 5th right down to 1700rpm perfectly for the past 21K. For years Honda would not hold warrenty on anything but their Z1 trans oil. About a year or so ago, Honda made the Z1 oil obsolete in lew of their "new" all synthetic trans oil......thousands of reflashes and TC's were changed out over the past 6 years only to find out bean oil cant handle low line pressure TC lock up in low RPM's. Folks I wouldnt have believed it if I didnt see it first hand. They can stick their bean oil recomendations where the sun dont shine.....This is what I have in my TDI's, Oddy and soon CRD.

There’s an additive several here used with success! It supposedly also works in Ford transmissions that have the shudder problem.

However CRD’s shudder because the cushion springs in the TC bottom out under mild acceleration and then when the pedal is eased up slightly they spring back followed by becoming bottomed out again. This is what causes the lock up clutch to shudder. The ultimate cure is a improved TC containing stiffer springs. At some point the original springs will break and cause more problems.

The only difference between the stock f37 TC and the Euro TC is those spring are larger. Somewhere there’s a thread here showing both springs.

GDE has a transmission tune that is close to the original tcm tune and shifts with the TC locked.

Joe,
Thanks for filling me in on the nuts n bolts of the CRD shudder. You would think a factory R&D team can build for torque from the git go. I remember when Ford had stoped putting Autos in the 7.3 in the late 80's untill they figured out how to manage torque vibration better. As for the GDE TCM tune, Im not sure I like the idea of TC lock up between gears on a OEM drive train. Any thoughts on that?

The additive:

Quick fix is the 2-ounce Dr Tranny Instant Shudder Fix, for my part, I went with the Platinum ATF Protectant... Great stuff!

That's the third reason I went with a pre F37 instead of the GDE.

Contact Suncoast - I think Sir Sam let them copy a preF37 TCM (although it happened about a month before GDE released their tune so it got lost).

Pre F-37 Restoration Flash if it is still available, hope you get a sales guy who knows about it. If not, ask for Ron Wolverton.

If not I use another option, send a PM.

I believe that there is a post about a company that flashes your TCM to pre F37, located somewhere in the midwest, but I can't find the post using the search.
