Cheers for the reply, think it's the right code, someone had the same over on jeep forum. Looks like the only way of knowing which is the multimeter test. Or would the jeep throw a code if the alternators faulty?
Makes sense if it can detect battery voltage coming in and report it's too low, surely it could detect output voltage from the alternator and tell if that's too low?
The alternator output is connected to the battery positive via a thick cable so effectively the voltage is the same. It actualy connects via a "fusable link" according to the circuit diagram. You will not get any other code for a faulty alternator...the ECU only knows there is a problem if it tries to lower or raise the voltage and does not get the right correction.
The ECU actually picks up the sensing of the battery output via a fairly thin wire that goes through fuse 26 and fuse 6 in the Power Distribution Center (PDC) and then finds its way to the ignition switch so it has a few areas where it can fail.
The ECU only measures "Line 1" as stated in the detailed error code post above...Line 2 is the Battery Temperature Sensor which I mentioned in my reply to your post on jeepforums
This CRD Forum here on Lost is actually the best place to be for any CRD problems.....as stated here...start with the battery as the main culprit
