The smoke coming out of the EHM is why California and later the rest of the US went to the Positive Crank Case Ventilation.
The other normal symptom of EHM is oil spotting from the oil mist coming out with the blow by.
Don't like it hook up an oil separator like the Provent.

I noticed the smoke coming out of my EHM this weekend while towing and it scared me enough to think that I had so much blow-by that a new top-end might be required. I'm glad to see that others are having this symptom too so that I don't panic as badly. I'm still shocked by the amount of oil that is sitting on the pan in my garage floor that has come from the EHM.

Please keep in mind that having the oil filled to the top mark on your oil gauge also means it's slightly overfilled, as often pointed out on the forum. Because of this, your EHM is spewing a little more oil than normal, hence all these issues with the OEM CAC hoses transpiring oil and slowly deteriorating. with the EHM, that oil is now spewing directly on the ground. White smoke is normal, though annoying (and smelly  ). If you cannot stand the sight (and smell), follow warp2diesel's advice and get the Provent, or make your own homemade version of the catch can...

I don't mind the oil on the ground, nor the smell. My biggest fear was that so much oil is coming out and so much oil haze is visible that I was afraid that something might be wrong with the top-end of my motor. But if others are noticing this as well, I guess this is just normal for this motor. I'll make sure that I don't overfill it on the oil changes, but I do remember barely being half way up on the hashes.

My wife complained about this as well (people would flag her down at stoplights and tell her that her engine was on fire) so I just ran the EHM all the way back to the tail-pipe so it doesn't look like the engine is smoking. Provent would also fix this but it was so darn messy.
