2nd owner took over at 46k purchased at dealer

number one rod went through passenger side of the block cruising 70mph ,2500 miles on current change

oil changes mobile 1 full syn 5/40 (diesel rated) every 5000 with filter

... egr delete 46 k also ehm , no head gasket issues , timing belt done at 98k , no rocker failure , original turbo only 2000 miles of towing in its life . I never have passengers and do very long trips usual 100 to 500 miles freeway and mountain.

heard a low end intermittent tick about 7000 miles ago but it was inconsistent and hard to track . sometimes would stay sometimes go not matter hot no matter cold .

she is a jeep and has been rode hard and put away wet , but always warmed up, always had turbo cool down along with proper maintenance. I did alot of jeeping but I thought thats what we do ;)

I wont proceed tear down diagnostic tell spring , I live in deep winter areas .
Plan will be used motor that will receive some bullet proofing internals.

truth is it was probably me ,I get nasty when I play . The stamp said trail rated :-)r Hahah

I'd like to know what you find if you open her up... I'm thinking that a loose connecting rod bolt loosened.

Well we will see in the spring . That's possible I hope that would make me feel better on my maintence .. if it was a loose bolt. I will be posting photos of the rebuild and the carnage in the spring tell then we will wait and see .
I have a photo on my instagram of the hole in the block. Also if anyone wants the insta handle pm me I will be putting my build on there and the teardown of the carnage #buildacrd

243,600 miles on mine. I bought it at 160,000 with a rod out the block. Got another engine with it that had 60,000 miles but had been in a fire. Previous owner had started to disassemble it and figured out he was in over his head. I rebuild the top end on the 60,000 mile engine before it went in. The valve train was shot. I figured it had to be from all the soot in the oil from the egr. That also got "fixed" in the swap. The rest of the drive train is still original and going good except for normal maintenance stuff of course.

Lark8722 - That is amazing that your CRD reached that figure on a stock CRD with no mods.

Is that 289,000 miles or kilometers?

Reviving an old thread here. Jeep sat for a year but finally had time to tear into the engine last week. You guys called it, two broken rockers arms. Both exhaust, one on cylinder one and one on two. There are some solid worn grooves on the respective cam lobes. Looks like the roller bearings have been failing for a while.

I'm currently debating whether it is worth it to repair or not. With the cams I'm looking at the following for repair costs. The Jeep has 200k on it. If we can get another 50-100k out of it it is worth it to us to repair. Just don't know if that is hoping for too much.

ID Parts prices
Cam and rocker kit $849.95
Complete timing kit $379.00
Timing tool kit $134.90
ARP head studs $329.00 (don't want to venture this far into the engine again anytime soon)
MAP sensor $29.95
Misc fluids, oil, etc. $100
Total ~$1900 after you include tax and shipping

So thoughts?

One of mine is at 308000 km and is about to undergo it's second timing belt change. New rockers and ARP studs are going in at the same time.

I think it's worth it. If it has new and upgraded parts it should last that long or longer. I have an 06 liberty crd completely stock with 230,000 miles. I replaced the timing belt 2 times and rocker arms once on it.

Bought at 68.5K currently @ 218K and still running.

Turbo replaced at 100K. Head gasket replacement at 155K at which time replaced rockers, etc. and EGR delete. GDE Ecotune. Otherwise stock. ESP/ABS dead, along with cruise control. Hearing noise from viscous heater. Rust eminating from alternator pulley. Rear window controllers replaced, rear wiper dead. Starting to seriously consider moving on from this vehicle to something less expensive to maintain and repair. Sure wish the bean counters hadn't gotten a hold of this vehicle, it had some real promise.

That being said, it's been a fun vehicle to drive and a big improvement in comfort and power from the 1996 Suzuki Sidekick that it replaced. Wish I'd held onto the Zuki, at least for the 16v fuel injected engine; Samurai enthusiasts like that one.

Anyhow, that's it for now. Thanks for all the help from this site over the last 9 years, it's kept my ignorance at bay and the wheels rolling more times than I can count.

VH bearing is cheap from autozone (about $14). There's a thread on the replacement. The other parts lasting 200k is a pretty good life. Used cars definitely require some parts around that time, or you can pay $45,000 for a new one, ouch. I'm cheap, I prefer used

250k miles on my wife's crd, stock engine tune and well maintained, the MAF was disconnected when we got it, I put both weeks kits on at 220k, also the turbo went at 220 so I did the sasquach upgraded one, at 230k I did a suncoast converter and gde Eco trans tune. It is all original and we still get 34 on the open freeway at 70mpg, the next plan is a gde full tq tune with exhaust braking and high idle.

My pastors kj crd I put together for him has 220k miles, the trans was done at 150k, I picked it up with trashed rockers and fixed it and gave it to him for his wife to drive

My kj crd has 170k miles

My dads kj crd has 150k

Ect... I work on many of them at work also as most guys don't have a clue

My 05 Lib has 197,000 installed synth egr mod, ready for second timing belt and first water pump change did not change
the first 100,000. While changing second set of motor mounts I I changed the ceramic glow plugs to 7 volt metallic plugs.

If this considered hi jacking a thread please disregard. From day one even in sub zero temp I have never seen the glow plug light come on for more than a second, however they must be working as it always started (with the ceramic plugs)
with the metal ones not so good. the seller warned of this. Is there a ecm setting for longer on time, and after glow?

2005 Jeep lib crd
2003 Dodge 2500 Cummins 5.9
1974,1977,1981 Mercedes
2015 jeep wrangler After the crd what a disappointment.

No, but put in 5v steels for improved starts. Leave the 7v programming as is
