Best to just delete the EGR system entirely.

I have finally surpassed the 200,000 mile mark.

Mine has around 276,000, and it had 273,000 when my dad gave it to me.

not quite 200,000 MILES, but my 2005 has 270,500+ KILOMETERS, was running MEGA STRONG everyday , HWY speeds every day, sustained high speed operation, always turbo cool down before shut off. Until the turbo shrieked today and then puked oil.

Almost 180k, recent top end job, running great with no problems since, strange not having to work on it all the time!

200,000 slight head gasket leak replaced and used arp studs , front drive cv joint and an alternator and a battery and brakes and tires is all i have done and elective torque converter change. Rest were mods

one 167,000 no problems engine related just breaks tires etc and window regulator

one 157,000 no problems but mods and tires, brakes

one 98,000 one window regulator and mods

One 147,000 bad head gasket leak almost got it back together bought it that way.

You have a fleet of them. They are misunderstood beautiful little machines that once you drive one, you're hooked ... I love both of mine and would rescue another.

I've hit the 200K mark on two seperate CRD's now, and 160K on a 3rd.

No specific mods as far as extending longevity - The 2 200K units are now on their 3rd timing belt sets, and did get ARP studs with their last timing service. New water pumps at that time as well.

Lost a rear main seal shortly after 200K on one, so while I had the trans out I did the suncoast torque converter and will have the trans rebuilt at the same time as a proactive measure.

Had one of the units now at 200K+ that developed a cracked head at about 165K - that one got a new head (and timing belt, and arp studs) at that time.

I am runing the GDE Eco on one of the 200K+ units, weeks stage one and two on that unit. The other 200K got none of that. The 160K has a weeks stage 1 and will get the GDE Eco eventually.

I plan to put a GDE turbo kit on the 200K+ with the new head. And will run that unit forever. Figure maybe at 300K may do an engine rebuild.

I have a 2005 Limited that has ran 190k of its life totally stock. It is now running get block off. Changing oil every 2k hoping it will eventually not be black as coal.

202,784, just finished head gasket, didn't do studs though, weeks 1 & 2, aux trans cooler, cam followers and cam end seals, 7 volt glow plugs and replaced OEM cooler snap connectors with parker fittings

Mine just died at 197k miles. Currently trying to decide if I want to pull the trigger and rebuild. Parts for this little guy are expensive. It looks like doing as much of the rebuild myself as possible will cost about $3500 in parts and fluids. That's assuming I don't find any surprises once I'm inside like a cracked cylinder head.

Sounds kind of high to me... do you know what parts broke and what parts are you wanting to replace?

rockers are about 300.

Post subject:  Re: Who's reached or is close to reaching the 200,000 mile m

Looks like I was a bit high on my quick estimate. It is making solid mechanical contact on every cycle, so I'm pretty sure it's either a dropped valve or rod bearing. I'm at ~200k so I'm not going to put money into it unless I'll have it for a good while longer, hence the timing belt refresh and ARP studs factoring into the cost.

All prices compiled from ID or Sasquatch. This includes no tax, shipping, or miscellaneous which of course will add on.

Just rockers = $1324
Rod bearing $1324 + $520 + $360 = $2204
Dropped valve $1324 + $520 + $395 = $2239

Broken Rocker
Timing belt kit and timing gasket set $434.95
Cam tool set (Sasquatch) $159.95
Rocker arm & lifter set $369.95
ARP head studs $359.95

Subtotal $1,324.80

Rebuild Baseline
Connecting rod bearings $49.95
Main bearing set $89.95
Piston ring set $209.95
Hot tank $100.00
Oil $42.15
Coolant $28.45

Subtotal $520.45

Rod Bearing
Connecting rods $360.95
Crank ???

Subtotal $360.95

Dropped Valve
Piston & liner $349.95
Piston liner shim kit $29.95
Valve $14.95

Subtotal $394.85

Do you have a sound byte of the engine noise for us to hear? We sometimes can compare the noises to other CRD engine catastrophes that we've heard in the past 10 years, and respond with what we observed.

Sounds like the upper end ... valve not opening and closing properly, my guess is worn rockers and cams ... a simple fix.

Pull the injectors and glow plugs for inspection.
