Not my liberty but a gasser with the 231 transfer case.

Trying to diagnose from afar.

The part time light is on, and I am not sure if it is truly in part time or not.
I am going to have them test this more.

So here is what I have come up with:
Bad sensor for part time mode
Shift lever is out of whack and vehicle is in part time mode
Shorted wiring causing part time light to indicate

Any other thoughts?

Sometimes if the vehicle looses power while it is in 4WD and then shifted out it flips the BCM out a bit and confuses it where it is, you may try shifting back and forth through the whole range of motion several times(on a loose surface of course) so that it gets a chance to figure out correctly where it is. Might be the problem and its free to try and only wastes a little time if it doesn't work.

That is a common problem.
Might just be the switch.
Read on.

It shouldn't be the shift lever since it is directly connected to the transfer case, if it wasn't working properly, you would either not have any pressure switching it from 2wd to 4wd - or - it wouldn't move at all.

Outside the CRD section... That's just the CRD Tech section. I haven't seen anything about this problem in there, but there aren't many posts there either.

Other than that... :ALONE: This is where its at.
