I just received my meziere today but I am unsure of a few things where do we drill the hole in the old tstat? and do we have to remove it? also how do you fill drain and bleed our coolant systems? |

You need to drill a hole in the NEW chevy thermostat that goes into the housing. You need to drain the coolant from the bottom of the radiator. We did not drill a hole in the thermostat and I have been watching for a spike but have not seem anything to indicate that. She is running just a bit to the left of 12 o'clock. We also put the housing right after the radiator high up for easy access. I will watch for any spiking and post if it occurs. |

If you don't want to drain the entire system and aren't bothered about recovering the coolant you may wish to consider the redneck drain procedure - just pull the hose and let it gush. You will loose less than 2 quarts doing this. According to the FSM the bleed process consists of turning the heater full on and drive. The air will find it's way into the expansion tank over the first hour of driving. Just keep an eye on it and top up as required but only open the tank when cold. |

the cooling system is self purging. you should be able to refill what was lost, I lost maybe 2 cups of antifreeze by only refilling the firewall reservoir as the primary gets air in it and the sucks down the secondary when it cools. 1/8 hole in the center of the rim of the tstat should be fine. I did 5/32's and it takes longer to get up to operating temp. |

4x4kingx889 - HOAT antifreeze, definitely not some "universal" stuff. Either Zerex G-05 or Mopar equivalant although if you dig around a bit several other vehicle brands use HOAT. Easest is just get the Zerex stuff from NAPA or you can get it with free shipping from Amazon. |

I installed it works great so far! theres a little kink in the house but it works fine. I lost some coolant so I went to the local parts store and they said that peak performance coolant is ok to use in the crd. I don;t feel safe Im going to order the right stuff and change it. |

Peak performance coolant mixed with HOAT cooalnt = Jelly radiator and poor coolant circulation. Don't mess around with the cooling system, take it from me ... I unwillingly became a CRD cooling system expert. A poor functioning cooling system can be cause for a warped cylinder head or leaky cylinder head gasket. Our vehicles are dangerously proned for such a failure, and if you don't believe me, then search the forum and you will find many who have had to replace their cylinder head due to poor coolant circulation and or radiator plugging up due to mixing coolants. And if the coolant has been mixed inthe system it will be dfficult to get it out. I had to replace my cylinder head and head gasket recently and it was not a fun experience. It will set you back $2,500 to $3,500. Hoat cooalant is $13.99 a gallon on sale, so don't mess around. |

I bought the straight Zerex G05 at NAPA and have added it. I'll keep adding more to the firewall container until it is consistently above the halfway mark. Shouldn't take much. |
