No it's not a canadian unit

I've been a member of Fred's tdi club since I bought my 1996 Passat in 96
Yes I know many people don't see that kind of mileage but I did

Way back I owned a 1982 Datsun bought new, before they were called Nissan, King cab Diesel pickup that my average was in the low 30's. I only kept that one for about 20k miles because the rpm band was too small and I was constantly shifting

My first diesel was a 1978 rabbit 4 door also bought new and my high tank for that one was 64 and the tanks on both side of that one were also high indicating it was not a overfill/underfull thing and again at about 20k miles after it was broken in. I was alone with one suitecase driving the speed limit per the speedometer.
My 96 Passat tdi wagon averaged just over 45 mpg for 107k MILES and the 99.5 mark 4 jetta, ALH engine, averaged 49.6 for 114k MILES. Granted it was mostly highway on both and It was for work so the speed limit was observed most of the time
Those two tanks were under perfectly ideal conditions. Good fuel bought in southern states, (closer to the refinery?) on a cool humid night, no AC, lots of moisture in the air, cruise control set for 65 mph that is actually lower then 65, 20k on the odometer that means it was broken in but the intake had not started clogging, tire pressure was the max printed on the tires, no traffic and the wife was asleep and I only had to stop for fuel
My son owns it now and he has Jeff's stage 2 Rocket tune and routiley gets in the low 60's on return trips from Michigan with fuel bought close to a refinery in Northern Ohio. If you've ever driven in Michigan you know the posted limit is the slowest your allowed to drive on the berm

His trips up with central Ohio crap fuel gives him lower figures. The car has around 140k miles now.
The biggest thing is good fuel! and keeping your foot out of the skinny pedal is a close second
And I did post my figures on Fred's, check my profile there, but was ignored as those getting around 40 mpg just didn't think it was possible

I worked with a friend who gets similier mpg as I did on his 2002 jetta tdi. My tdi club profile has me joining in 2000 but my account was somehow messed up and I had to rejoin
I've owned and driven around 10 or so 1985 to 1991 non tdi VW diesel's over the years including a EcoDiesel all used and some over 200k and one over 250k miles and they all averaged close to 50 mpg for me.
