Does anyone know if the ECM needs flashing on the 2005 UK model chereokee jeep 2.8crd when fitting the new 5v glowplug kit, ive heard that the US does but when i asked my dealers service department about it they said they hadn't heard about a flash for that and had no paper work for it, they were convinced the glowplug module reduces the voltage down ![]() |

Per TSB 08-005-11 DEC 2010 ceramic glow plugs are no longer no longer available, replace with metalic and reprogram ECU - kit part # 68090434AA I don't have a copy of the TSB but see discussion at viewtopic.php?f=5&t=58806 and http://www.alldatadiy.com/TSB/04/060445fu.html which also references the TSB as including an ECU reprogram and GDE says the same thing. Perhaps when all else fails your dealer should read the instructions. |

Thanks for that i feel that it should be done myself but as i said the dealer swore there wasn't one for the Uk jeep if so how many have they fitted without flashing the ECM, i could do with some Uk web site with these reference to UK update's |

Cannot help you on UK sites other than to say as far as I know all CRD KJs world wide came from the same factory with the same equipment, other than right hand drive vs left hand, and if so the TSBs are world wide. |

Don't upgrade if you don't have to. Beru, Etecno1, Bosch, Champion, etc. all have the 11volt versions for Cherokee. |

As far as I know, these are too short (physical length) for our application. I remember that there was a complaint about the seat (the part that seals it to the block) being very thin too. If you have a 11 volt system, you could have burned out a few of those 7 volts plugs. |

As far as i know its a 7v system even when you put the voltage meter on there just under 7v there which fades to about 5.5v when the engine starts as a post heat , yes just looked in the service manual its a 7v system |

All engines for KJ 2005-2007 (so both European and US models) had "low voltage" glow plugs. 05-06 were ceramic, 07 was metallic. Regardless of where you live, you need a new ECU flash if you have installed the new metallic plugs on a car previously having the ceramics. |

If they have 11 volt systems, is there a flash to take 11 volt steel plugs? And is there an OEM Bosch 11 volt steel replacement plug? |

I agree with you there about KJs , what i could do with is a email address direct to jeep in the US so they could contact my dealer or flash issues directed at the Uk |

I agree with you there about KJs , what i could do with is a email address direct to jeep in the US so they could contact my dealer or flash issues directed at the Uk I am sure that you have noticed the many current posts about Etechno1's steel replacement glow plugs. Although I certainly respect MrMopar64 opinions and realize that he knows far more than most about our trucks here, he does tend to steer us toward company product. And so he should if he is an employee. But, I am willing to take the risk of deviating. Such as I do every time I buy Napa parts over Mopar. I am definitely trying to avoid the cost of having my dealership flash for 5v plugs and am happy to ignore the (for me non-important) difference between the old ceramics and the new 7v Etechno1 steel. Where I live, we seldom go below freezing and then never very much below. I currently have 3 ceramic 7 volt and one temporary 11.5 volt steel Beru. Starts the same as before. |

I have not seen the TSB but I know it documents the needed part numbers and it references the need for the reflash so I presume it provides information on how to do the reflash which should be available online to any Jeep dealer thru the corporate internal computer system. |

Look up Cherokee glow plugs, they always say 11 volt, eg: Bosch 0 250 202 038 Beru GN055 (0 100 226 494) Etecno1 GX123 Champion CH 180 DENSO DG-176 This is where the confusion exists. Some are saying the Cherokee's are also 7 volt and subject to the same 5v steel "upgrade". Clarification please. |

Squeeto wrote: ![]() whosthedaddy07 has a Cherokee, lives in the UK. Clarification please. Understand this please. He has a 05 and that means it's a KJ by any name you want to call it ![]() The last year the name "Cherokee" was used in North America, that includes Canada where you are, was 2001 and was a XJ ![]() The KJ was introduced in 2002 and it's also called a Cherokee in Europe and us North Americans call it a Liberty. ![]() Jeep XJ 1983-2001 called a Cherokee. Jeep KJ 2002-2007(?) Also called a Cherokee in most of the word but Liberty in North America. As I remember they did not use the name "Liberty" in Europe for reasons relating to WWII ![]() So when your looking up glow plugs you must also look by the year! |
