I have not felt any shudder at all, ever. The only issue i had with the tranny was a hard shift from 2nd to 3rd under light throttle when cold. I have just under 50 k on the dial. F37 was performed. I was driving home tonight, climbing up a gradual hill, and i Hit a decent size bump in the road. The rpm's jumped as if i kicked it into neutral. I flipped it into neutral and then drive with no results. I went to 2nd and back to drive and still nothing. I pulled off to the shoulder. I tried ti engage 4 wheel drive and still nothing. The drive shaft is intact. When you hit the gas you just get a whine. I had it towed to the dealer. I bought is used with 46k. I have the remainder of the 7/70 powertrain. Ill keep you guys updated if anyone is interested.

The converter might be fine, and the bolts holding it to the flexplate maybe just sheared off.

So the drama unfolds. Service manager called and it was in fact a blown torque converter. When he looked up my file, the 7 year/70k power-train was never transferred. The dealer i purchased the truck from gave me a "VIP summary report" before we made the deal. This clearly states that there was 12 months and/or 22,xxx miles left on the warranty and it was in face transferable with a $100 detectable. I have this paper in my possession. Additionally, 3 weeks after purchasing the car, i did some research on my own. According to Jeep/Chrysler policy, a certified dealer must fill out and submit a warranty transfer form and pay $150. I called the dealer and ask if this was done. The finance a$$hole looked me up in the system and confirmed that I was listed as the new owner of the vehicle and the warranty was also on my file. I requested that he send me proof of this. They faxed me over a "coverage report" showing that i was the owner and there was the remainder of the 7 year/70k. After many phone conversations with the sales manager and the finance guy, they admitted that they did notify me that there was a transferable warranty showing in the system when i purchased the car, and they did tell me it would be transferred to me, but noe it is in the system as non transferable and "there is just nothing they can do about it" but "since this was once a recall item, you can get the service manager to pass it through under recall work"...yeah, after the recall service was preformed 4 years ago and running with no issue. I have called Chrysler corporate and had a service manager assigned to the case. I have sent them all the documentation and proof of transferable warranty at time of purchase. I should have an answer back today. While i wait for this, the service center has quoted this as a $560 part and 8 hours of labor (+/- $1700 job)... which is just ridiculous to me.

For what it's worth the 2005 CRD warranty is transferable to a 2nd owner within 30 days of sale for a $150 fee. I know as I am the 2n owner and I purchased the transfer and reveived documentation of same entitiled Chrysler LLC Warranty Transfer. My purchase was direct from the 1st owner so I had to go to the dealer to handle the transfer.

If you purchased from a Chrysler/Jeep dealer then the transfer should have been a routine part of the transaction with either the dealer paying the $150 or by them tacking on an added $150 to cover that transfer. It has been my experience that if, during a dealer purchase, you don't want to purchase something like a warranty transfer then the dealer has you specifically sign that you are declining that option.

If you do win the warranty battle be sure to get a Euro TC installed even if you have to pay for that part (FYI make them sell it to you at dealer cost at most since they will be reimbursed for the stock TC anyway). If you don't win the battle get a Euro TC or Suncoast on line and have a good tranny shop do the install (be sure to Loctite those bolts) which should cost a lot less that the dealer price.

Time per GDE "The process takes about 6 hours for an experienced mechanic, budget 2-3 hours more for the weekend warrior." multiply times hourly rate of whomever you are using.

I'll make a long story short. The dealer who sold me the car lied. I am the third owner, not the second. Which is why the warranty was never transferred. The Chrysler case manager who was reviewing the whole deal ended up covering the $1,400 of the repair and leaving me with a $200 deductible. They told me that they were happy i bought within their brand and wanted to show their appreciation. Any further pursuit of the warranty transfer will have to be taken up directly with the dealership who sold me the vehicle. I do live 7 hours away from the dealer, and lets face it, im not driving 7 hours to sit in small claims court. But i do have paperwork stating that before the purchase, the warranty was transferable. I also have paperwork after the purchase showing the vehicle in my name and the warranty still transferable. I am going to have my lawyer draft some papers and send them to the dealer. Hopefully this will scare them into giving me something.

***A SIDE NOTE ON TORQUE CONVERTER PART NUMBERS***

I called up the parts department to get the euro converter in. I supplied part number 68037142AA. They told me this number was outdated and the new number is RL037142AA. I called the service manager and asked what part was on the repair list for my vehicle and he responded RL037142AA. So it appears the dealers are now rid of all the stock of the olde converters put in during the recall period and the euro spec is a standard replacement part. I searched the new part number here and it seems legit: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=62717
