I recently replaced my fan clutch because it was making a lot of noise. It turns out that the old clutch was masking a chirpping sound coming from the fan area at idle rpms. I cannot identify where the sound is coming from, and it goes away at higher rpms. Any help on where to start looking would be appreciated.

Perhaps the one way clutch is bad on the alternator :JEEPIN:

could be a bad alternator clutch, take a look at your serpentine belt tensioner, if its moving any at idle then you know the pulley is bad.

x3 for the alternator pulley being bad. Those are the only source of a chirping noise that I know of.

I read a lot of posts about the alt clutch pulley, and I'm convinced its likely my problem. Looks like the easiest fix is to replace the entire alt rather than trying to remove the pulley. Now on the hunt for a new alt - sounds like others have had good luck with Advanced Auto.
