What are some tips that you have to getting the best possible fuel from the pump? brands, locations, etc... ...(I said pump, because I know some of you brew your own or grease it up) |

Where you are in the country matters so you might want to post that. Otherwise I try to stick with name brands and stations that pump a fair amount of diesel. |

updated my info. Anyone know if different brand names sell different cetane level of diesel? I remember a few years ago, amoco (now bp) sold premium diesel with a cetane of 50. |

There wa a poll on here a while ago... Shell was top name brand. I use exxon (only other choice is conoco) But Shell was better for me before I moved! |

I only use shell, and texaco/chevron. I have never had a fuel related issue and I had only drain the fuel/water separator once in 35k miles. |

I was told by a Cummins Crosspoint service manager that a great source for fuel was Pilot/Flying J. They sell ALOT of diesel for the OTR (Over The Road) truckers therefore the inventory is rotated frequently. I have used the Pilot/Flying J here in the Indy area along with Shell, BP and Country Mark. Only Country Mark indicates that they have "Premium Diesel" on their pumps. That said, whatever brands you have available, I would buy from the one(s) that sell the most in terms of volume. FWIW, Hoosier CRD |

I personally go to a mobile station right off the expressway that is almost always full. Everytime i go there i have to wait in line for the double sided diesel pump. Pisses me off when theres a darn prius at the pump when theres 15 gas only pumps and 1 diesel pump. |

LOL, this sounds like my predicament. The pump has two sides, one with a regular nozzle and one with a jumbo nozzle. Of course the jumbo nozzle doesn't work well in our neck and there's always a frikkin school bus filling up on the regular nozzle. Sad thing is that any time I've pointed this out to the driver they didn't even realise there was a difference ![]() To the op, putting brands aside, make sure you go somewhere that you know has a high turnover. The station that I go to is on a busy main road and serves a lot of school busses and trucks. |

Second, Around our area, the cheapest I usually find is at the marathon station on the corner of Fort and Vreeland. Last week I filled up for $3.78. I have been filling up there frequently for the past two years and have never had a problem with fuel quality. |

I go to an independent that has the best price and the most contractor volume. It seems all the contractor fill up at 1 or 2 places around my town I go there. When I can, which is when I am actually not traveling for work. I hit the biodiesel plant in newport RI |
