i have a chuffing ticking noise quite loud coming from the front two fuel injectors i can also smell exhaust fumes are there any seals or anything that sit between the injector and the head ? if so how do i change them ?

Check Sams NOOB guide link to manuals and parts documents for those applicable to the 2.5L. I imagine the 2.5L injectors are essentially the same as the 2.8L ones in which case there is an "O" ring and a copper crush washer that seals the injector/head interface. Sounds like you may need to replace those items. The FSM probably has instructions on injector removal or you can search the forum (search on "injector" using the Forum search function but limited to the CRD pages or use the Google advanced search function and paste the CRD forum link in the "search within site" field). Should just be a matter of pulling the injector(s); replace those 2 items; reinstall the injectors. CAUTION at least on the 2005/06 CRD the fuel rail is plastic and easily broken so take care although I believe that one member built a brass replacement.
