Here in Cherokee, NC afraid to drive anywhere else.............turbo is obviously shot, but unfortunately I haven't been keeping up to date with the forum lately, and didn't heed the slight warning sign of what sounded like a slight boost leak, and found jinstall's writeup little too late. What's my options? Everything here tells me the engine is probably toast also. This happened about 15mi. back, and was able to pretty much coast all the way down hill. |

Well, I called and talked to the experts at GDE, and after their reassurance, added some oil and started driving the nearly 500mi.home.............150mi. Into the trip Since the initial blowout and still holding together. However, its likely to go d at any minute of course. Good sign, if there is such a thing at this point, is that it had not used any more oil. Stay tuned!!! |

No such luck.........just 15min. after my last post as we got done with diner and hit the road again, and POOF!!!!! No more boost pressure, and the "smoke screen from hell" starts. Made it the 15mi. Into Cleveland, TN after it gave up the ghost and its now siting at the dealer.........we'll see how bad things are in the morning, but not looking too good anymore. Hopefully the engine was saved and it only needs a turbo. Only good news I can find is that its still running with no other symptoms besides the blown turbo. Engine still runs smooth with no ill signs of rough idle or any other abnormal noises. |

We would like to know how many miles on the engine, and what mods was it running with? Also what oil were you using and how many miles ago was your last oil change? Thanks |

no boost and lots of smoke are classic blown hose signs although low oil normally isn't. still something they need to check (and I realize you're at a dealership that may or may not know anything about diesels) |

Oh probably because of the fact it had been sounding as if it was eating marbles for the previous 200mi. That, and it also ate through a gallon and half of oil in the 15mi after I heard the "poof", then started billowing smoke |

I am in the next town north on 75, Athens, let me know if I can be of any help. Are you still in Cleveland, or did you get back home? This is from about three years ago, the dealer mentioned is Kile. The one I ended up using was in Lenior City. click23 wrote: On the way to the dealer it goes into limp mode again. This is a different dealer, took it here because it is much closer to my wifes work. I let them know every thing that had happened and it was a CRD Llibby. After waiting for about 5 minutes, the ticket writer comes back and tells me they can't work on it because another dealer had worked on it, and the part were under warranty from them and their tech did not have the tools to fix it. Does any one else smell that?? So I pull out of the lot and limp mode again. And the trans temp light comes on. I had to have it towed 60 miles to the fisrt dealer. And while it is not clear in the quote, I let them know that another dealer had worked on it, the problems I was having, and it was a diesel when I mad the appointment. When the guy came back in the lobby, I thought he was going to tell me the rental car was there, but no he handed me the keys. I told him that it was in limp mode and the other dealer was 60 miles away, he just said sorry. I I made it to the north end of town, and ended up having it towed to the other dealer. |

I rented a car, and got home later that evening, after the initial inspection..........actually, they seemed very informed and helpful when I was there and have no problems installing the GDE kit for me along with a Euro spec torque converter. Mine is out of warranty though and surely they know I'm a cash-n-carry customer. |

Glad to hear that, some dealers seem to be hit or miss, depending on who you speak with. If you don't mind, let me know how much they charge you for parts and labor on torque converter install. |
