so I found glow plugs for our CRDs and only cost 11$ a piece! but i ordered them and now i need to know and or learn how to put them in.... if any one can help and or send step by step with pics or what now i would appreciate it. being military underpaid cant afford to fix it at a shop unless ne one here is in el paso?..... also i want to know who makes a better lift rocky roack rockfather delux or jeepin by al 4 in lift? also are there any other places to buy a lift and or bumper thats not a 1k$ abr bumper?...

First off what glow plugs did you get; from whom; are they 7v drop in? Details please.

As to how I don't have pictures but see viewtopic.php?f=5&t=56696&p=630729&hilit=glow+removal#p630729 and I'd recommend you download both the 2005 and 2006 FSM from Sams NOOB guide (05 lacks cooling data and diagnostics but does have illustration keys - 06 has cooling data and diagnostics but no illustration keys - search for glow plug to see some drawings.)

I must be missing something here. I am researching changing GPs since I know that there is an issue with 5v/7V and controllers, etc. and I was hoping your link would provide me a clue, but it just takes me back to this thread.

I have already downloaded the FSMs so I'm good there, but will that have the information on the change-over?

The FSM will cover replacing the GP's BUT your ECM must be flashed or your new glow plugs will have a very short life, That will require a trip to the dealer or a tune from GDE.

But read all the threads, there's a new guy on the block with metal 7 volt glow plugs that don't require a ECM flash or controller
Also there's some doubt about the difference if any between the old and new controllers. They both have the same part number printed on them just the new ones have it blacked out with a felt marker

whitedog - sorry about the link issue, corrected link posted above. As far as replacement goes your options appear to be 1) OEM with a kit cost of ca. $125 assuming you can get a kit with the right controller, seems to be a problem there, plus ca $100 for a dealer ECU reflash or ca. $50 to update a GDE flash or 2) the new Etecno1 plugs which are, as noted, a drop in replacement that uses the existing controller and does not require an ECU flash update.

Joe - The controllers were very similar, the only difference I could tell was one digit (I went outside and physically just verified this): above 4 zyl is the number-letter series of 12V905 with 905 beingin a circle. My old one was 907 in a circle (pretty sure, pitched it 4 weeks ago).

Also, me 4 months to get the parts and find the time. GP1 fouled the first of July, so 4 months of half-spent diesel fuel blowing up into this orifice fouled and gunked up the insides...causing a vacuum when I tried to remove it from the block. It was a very tense 30 minutes as I became more confident as to that had indeed happened rather stripping/spinning the GP's threads on the way out.

The FCV connections were also a PITA. I found it easiest to have someone guide me from above as I used extensions and bolted it back together from the bottom.
