Happy Holidays Everybody!!!!
I just changed and put a WIX fuel filter on and have bleed all air out. Poured diesel in filter before reinstalling. Both o-rings (outer & inner) are on the new filter and nothing on the mount. The rig drives to my work about 25 miles and runs good. I pump/bleed it again at work and get two blasts of air before fuel solid. Drive home and get the same couple blasts. Have changed the filter 2 days ago and wondering if it will be solid fuel no air when correct or is there some air in the fuel bleeder at all times. I have checked the filter and it is tight. I will check again in a few days. Or do I keep bleeding for a few more days until no air. I have looked in the heater plug on the filter mount and do not see any leakage as per another post I have read (Thank you)
Appreciate any guidance and advice
Thank you,
TeamZombie

Air in fuel derives from two areas, the first area is the fuel / water separator filter and the second is at the fuel tank connectors.

At fuel water separator area. Make sure that you don't have the old round rubber gaskets stuck under the fuel head from the previous filter and you are doubling up gskets when installing the new filter preventing a proper seal. Make sure that all your fittings and rubber hoses are seated correctly and are tight, if the hoses are frayed at the ends, cut them back a little and reattach them tight.

At fuel Tank connectors: Remove and reseat fittings and check for leaks. Some members have tried to reseat the fittings to no avail.

Air in fuel leaks have not been easily found, many have resorted to installing fuel lift pumps in tank or inline to eliminate the problem.

Air build up in the fuel head issues can be eliminated by installing a in tank lift pump
Our whole fuel system from the tank to the CP3 pump is under a vacuum. A vacuum system can work perfectly but our CRD's have a couple of things working against it,
First our fuel lines from the filter rearward are from a gasoline version and they run a pressurized system and the plastic fittings at the tank are often the source of the air leaks.
Second the fuel head is the highest point in the system so air is trapped there and under certain conditions can rush to the pump and cause driveabilty problems
Chrysler has done the hard part of installing a in tank lift pump by putting all the control circuitry and wiring all the way to under the rear seat just waiting for you to finish the job.
You can mount a lift fuel pump just about anyplace as many have but if the pump is sitting in fuel inside the fuel tank it's pretty hard for it to "suck air" :SOMBRERO:
Yes it will take some effort and time, a couple of hours, to drop and then re-install the fuel tank but you can forget about it then :ROTFL:
It also makes it very easy to reprime the system when you replace the filter

See the currently resurrected thread titled "It's 10 o'clock, where's your lift pump" for details. :jester:

Not everyone is cursed with this problem but if your one of the unlucky ones you'll be very pleased how well your CRD will run with one :JEEPIN:

Has the original filter head been replaced with the improved model? If not, try that before installing a lift pump.
