Hi,
Yes the CRD 2.5 was only offered with 5 speed gearbox, the CRD 2.8 came with a 5 or 6 speed gearbox or an Auto ( mainly in the US). Personally I am not aware of anyone retrofitting a CRD 2.5 with a 2.8 and keeping the same 5 speed gearbox, normally at the same time they transplanted a 6 speed as it's more smooth.
Here in anycase might be a bit more info that could help you make a decission, not directly pertinant but might give you a heads up ( read the last part of the post GBKJ2003): http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=103&t=55973.
Hope this helps a bit.
Fil.

You'll be shocked when you find out the price of the bi-mass flywheel...

A KJ or KK NSG370 will have the correct bellhousing bolt pattern. A TJ NSG370 will NOT have the correct bolt pattern.

the bellhousing is integrated into the NSG370 case, the NV3550 uses a seperable bellhousing. I posted the OEM part number for the NV3550 bellhousing, that combined with a AX-15 or NV3550 will boltup.

The bellhousing is cheap, the OEM DMF is pricey.

I've posted the part number of the OEM bellhousing before, you can find it and this same info in the search.
