Hey guys, Happy New Year, and I wish you all the best, and to put a lot of of miles on your CRD's with no issues. Now to bussines: My name is Sebastian, and I live in Saskatoon, SK., Canada. I am a member for a month now, but on this forum for about a year. By the way , the amount of info that I got here is unreal, you guys are fenomenal, Thanks!! I bought a 2006 CRD,a litle over a year now, and let me tell you this: it was a adventure at first, until I found this forum. And I mean every single word!! Anyway, I disconected the MAF, I did the Elephant trump mode, cleaned the MAP, because was absolutely a mess,I disconected the FCV but not the EGR( don't ask me why!!! LOL). Well, guess what? the EGR is operational with the MAF disconected, and if anyone tells you diferent is a liar. I put a temp probe on the EGR pipe that goes to the intake , just pass the FCV, and every time, when I passed 2000-2300 RPM, the temp probe increased dramatically in temperature. Also the FCV Light on the dash would come on blinking about every 10-15 ignition cycles. So I made my self some room, by removing the FCV assy., and I disconected the EGR plug. And I removed the gasket from the pipping that connects to the intake and I made a blank and installed it. Now, I cleaned the FCV,.... is two part assembly, So what I did , I installed just the first piece( the one that the boost hose mounts to), without the FCV assy., all what I needed was 4 shorter 6mm bolts ( about 1 inch long), with allen heads. I believe that is stupid to have a butterfly valve on this particular diesel engine, so I did not install the FCV. But is a litle catch my friends, on this 2.8 VM Motori engine, the injection cycles are electronically controlled , very similar with the fuel injected gasoline cars, so the MAP sensor have a crucial job on keeping the engine operating safe(boost, temperature and fuel). Now, are going to be some comments about "dieseling"; Let me tell you my personal opinion on this: unless the turbo is leaking oil badly pass the seals, it will never be enough oil mist to create a "dieseling" efect. I work on heavy equipment for about 20 years, I never seen a diesel engine fail because "dieseling" effect!!! NEVER. And none have a FCV's!!!!! On tha CRD , the FCV is solely installed for the EGR gases to enter under boost. Thats it . How bad is this? Try to to smell all the time your farts!! The good news are that I put 15000Km (about 9300 miles) after all the mods, I removed the MAP sensor, and he is clean like the day I clened him for the first time. So if anyone will clean his MAP sensor every 10000-15000 Miles, and the turbo is not leaking oil in the compressor side(very important), you will be happy like a kid in the candy store!!! LOL I love my CRD, I get about 33-38 MPG depending on temperature ( when bellow 0 C/30 F a litle less), and I am pushing 100000 K ( 60000 )Miles. Keep your stick on the ice !!!! Thanks |

Well, good for you! The FCV is a 'luxury' device too, it closes when you shut down the engine, avoiding the tipical rrrrrrrrr...cloink! shut down on most older diesels. I know it's easier to plug the EGR pipe on the intake side but it would be better to plug it at the other end. The pipe then won't get so hot. Then you put the FCV back in place but remove the valve. No EGR, no CEL A diesel can and will go 'on a stampede' if there is a fuel source. Through the PCV for example Try it, just overfill the engine with 2 or 3 liters of oil. Or better not, since you have removed the FCV and with an auto gearbox there is no easy way to shut it down ![]() Note: if this ever happens to someone, block the air intake. Stuff your socks or your gf panties or whatever in the inletpipe, accesable through the grille. |

Stuff your socks or your gf panties or whatever in the inletpipe, accesable through the grille. The pipe from the EGR valve to the intake ONLY can be blanked on the EGR valve side, because it have a flange, on the intake( or other side) side is an interesting connection, that I did not want to mess with. It seems that I miss something, what is the diference on running without the FCV or running with the FCV with the butterfly removed?? Like you mentioned? However, I just posted things that I have done to my CRD, is up to you to me give back an educated opinion, I did mention that I disconected the MAF and the EGR, so I do have a CEL, so I am not sure what did you really meant by : rrrrrr....cloink! It does shuts off like a diesel, if that what you meant. And if the motor is start dieseling, or rrrrr....cloink, I will look for a rebuilt kit for the turbo. Thanks P.S. About bloking the intake with my socks,.... or panties,.... WOW!! |
