Innova 3030 is cheap and effective for engine codes on both '05s and '06s. (Many scanners including other Innovas do NOT work with our rigs.) Make sure you print a copy of all the KJ CRD specific codes from this site and keep with your scanner.

ELM 327 adapter and TORQUE app for your cell phone or other device is even cheaper, but there are some bugs that some people are running into.

Innova 3030 can clear the codes it can read (engine only).

There is nothing aftermarket that reads in "realtime" for more than 5 min without locking up, except TORQUE. However, until someone offers a "plug-in" for the KJ CRD, its reading capability is pretty limited. (I have it.) Nothing other than a Chrysler Starscan can read trans codes on the KJ CRD.

Many of my vehicles are older, and do not have much if any of the more modern computerized control systems. However, I am reluctantly forced to the conclusion that I will have to get a code reader or scanner to help me diagnose/service the CRD. Can anyone recommend a scanner for the CRD KJ?

One question, the Amazon write-up doesn't say whether it can clear a code. Does it? Also, the Amazon writeup on the 3030 says that it updates every 30 seconds, so it is not 'real-time'. I have an issue with the transmission clunking when it upshifts to top gear and want to track that real time, and in any case I want to see the codes as they appear. Can you or anybody else recommend a real time scanner? I was thinking of buying the GDE flashes and their scan tool, but I'm not sure how that would work. Advice/recommendations cheerfully welcomed! LMW

DOC I have been using the 3030 for a week now, and it works as advertised. Thanks for the suggestion, Doc. Anyone looking for an inexpensive reader would be well served by this one. LMW

I have the best one from Harbor Freight, and it has worked fine in my CRD and in my Chevy 3500 diesel. I have used it on a few other vehicles without a complaint. For the money, its a good deal.

Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk I currently have 4 codes related to disconnected MAF and non functioning FCV. Torque does not see these code but can connect and display some of the gauges. OTOH my Innova 3100 can read and clear codes. It's still, however, a temperamental combination that can take multiple attempts to get results.
