I've been reading up on adding a lift pump, now that I've got darn near every other sore spot of the CRD taken care of. Buddy of mine is the original owner of a '95 6.5TDI Tahoe with close to 250,000 mi. I know they came with little inline fuel pumps, and when I inquired how his have faired over the years, he stated the original one was replaced at about 90k, and the 2nd one is still going strong. He said they are cheap to replace and he always has a spare on hand, "just in case", but has never needed it yet.

I looked them up from several different parts houses, and they go for under $80 anywhere you look, with some around $55 or so. Figure they are designed for diesel service, self regulated at 5-7psi max, with average service life of 100,000 mi or so. But, when I go to search on the site here, I hardly see then mentioned.

I think a couple other folks are using the gm pump. I went with the facet 40109. It was only $45 and several other folks have had success with it here.

I thought about the facet.......but I like the fact that the GM pumps are stocked in nearly every parts store there is, and most are built in the USA from companies like Delpi, AC Delco, Bosch, and Airtex. Not to mention they are specifically made for diesel service and have a long term proven track record with factory style sealed connectors.

I have a Facet which I'll install someday but I found that down here they are somewhat hard to find so future alternative at a reasonable price might be nice. Some questions:
1. NAPA part #AFP E3309 or Airtex E3309 - Correct?
2. I was going to ask about wiring and flow direction but I see it's stamped on the wire side of the pump, at least it is on the Airtex
3. are these a flow thru pump such that if the pump quites working fuel can still flow?
4. I know PSI ratings are all over the map as to accuracy but both the pumps noted above are listed as 6-8psi which is still well within the range of acceptable.

I have had the in-line duramax pump since ~20K miles. I used a Holly blue for a month or so but it was too noisy. I replaced the first Duramax pump at ~100K because it was getting somewhat noisy (rattled a little more than usual) but still worked. the second one I believe is an airtex brand and has 40K miles on it. It only takes about 20 minutes to change it out.

You are correct on both accounts.........the numbers and the fact they are a flow through design.
