I've run with the MAF sensor disconnected off and on for years with no problems other than the constant CEL. I've usually just plugged it back in for bi-annual emissions test or when a trip to the the dealer was scheduled.
It's time for the emissions test again - plugged in the sensor yesterday, car started, but then sputtered and died as soon as it was shifted into gear. Felt like it was out of fuel.
Unplugged the sensor, took it out on the road to warm it up. Pulled to the side of the highway, reconnected. It would run OK for a few seconds or up to a minute or so, then sputter, cough, shake, grind, etc....
Please help if you have any ideas. Need to get it working really quick, for at least long enough for the inspection. I'm leaving in less than a week for a month long road-trip, and would really like to have valid plates when I do.
When I get back from the trip I was already planning to clean (or replace) the EGR in conjunction with some GDE tunes and a Euro TC.... but, I really don't have much time to get into it before I leave.
I'm gonna hook up the scanner today to see if there are any codes, but since this is on my '06 - I'm not real confident that the scanner will choose to communicate today. It's usually hit-or-miss.
Thanks Doug
