This is the first and only time thet the jeep has done this. The other evening I was driving up my driveway. It is very steep 30* or so and about 250 feet long off of the county road to my door. As always as I turn into my driveway I pull it down into low. If I don't it likes to change into 2nd and back down into 1st before the top of the hill. I'd rather keep it in 1st and creep up. Anyway as I peaked the top of the hill about 200 feet up I let off of the fuel and the diesel bogs down and dies just like it was a stick shift and I had forgot to push in the clutch. It hunched a time or two before it died. I put it up in park and started it and pulled it into gear and pulled on up the drive. It hasn't done it since then. Converter issue or something else? Thanks Steve |

Unless I am missing something the answer is right there in your email; "about 200 feet up I let off of the fuel" at which point the engine stalled. A diesel has lots of torque at idle but IMHO when you let off the fuel the engine dropped to idle and what was left of the hill was just too much for it. Doubt this would have happened if you let off fuel 1-2 seconds later. Yes I know this was as you peaked the hill but unless you had fully gotten all 4 wheels all the way off that slope and maybe a few feet past I suspect the above is what happened. |

How full was your fuel tank at the time? It may have sucked a slug of air that stalled it right at the top. |

That would only be true for a Vehicle with a manual tranny. It doesn't matter where or when the accelerator is released with an automatic. The only thing which should happen if the peddal was released too soon in an automatic is that it would loose forward motion and start to slip backward. It will not stall the engine. Opps you are right. I can say that low tranny fluid in the TC will stall the engine. Before I figured out how to deal with the tranny fluid drain back problem, without really fixing it, I stalled the engine several times. |

I'd bet you are right about the low fluid level. I have a slow drip from a hose up front near the radiator and I haven't checked the dipstick in a month so I bet that it is low. I've been waiting for warmer temps to replace the hose. Thanks again. Steve |
