Post subject:  front diff help needed

I had about 40k on the front diff oil and it was extremely viscous/watery and foamy. Also have had high speed steering wheel shakes for last 40k. I could have had water in there for a long time. Put in some Lucas 80w-90 in last night, haven't driven it yet.
So breather tube or seals? Just from rain and water on the roads?
What should I do? Open up the front diff? Will I be able to tell if its damaged? Just look for oil leaks from axel ends?
What's the easiest way to check out the breather tube?
Advise please- would be great if I could make the crazy shakes go away too.

There is no relationship between the Diff and steering (or at least a very remote chance of correlation). What are the conditions when the shaking occurs? When braking? Have you had the tires rotated and balanced? Are the ball joints or tie rod ends worn? There are any number of far more likely causes for shaking then the differential.
