I am soooo mad

Jeep/Chrysler parts were never cheap outside the USA but this is downright ridiculous.

I need a T-stat for the KJ, so I ordered 05072705AA. They told me it would kost 104€ +tax.(sales tax is 19% in Spain)

That was the Chrysler/Benz price they still had in their system....part arrived, I went to pick it up today: Fiat not only changed the part ref to B-123 whatever, but also the price:

231€+tax (including tax that is $349,75 US) !!! WHAT?

I told them to send it back. WTH, VM Motori is Italian. Prices should go down, not 150% up!

I get a really bad feeling about this, with prices of parts this high, who in their right mind would buy a (or another) Chrysler product in Europe?

Wow, and I thought we were getting raped here in Canada, This ~$100 part retails for ~$200 here. When I got quoted at the local dealership I simply laughed at the guy at the parts counter and asked him why I should buy his part for $200 when I could have it shipped from a dealer in New York for about $125 all in. He was very apologetic and piointed out that this price was less than what he was paying for them.

Have you looked into having one shipped from the US or maybe someone here would be willing to trade for some Etecno1 glow plugs :)

Tony, let me know if you want to get parts ordered from the US, if we have the part number we can order it here, and it'll be cheaper.

My experience buying parts from the US, UK and Australia tells me that they are all raising their part prices significantly - simply because they can. I asked a guy I know who works for Chrysler Jeep Australia about it and he told me that they use their margin on parts to subsidise other parts of the business and usually people just pay through their normal service invoice and the level of complaints is not enough to generate concern by management. There are many examples, like expensive oil and air filters, items used in large quantity and at every service which have a great boost effect to profitability on every service, and don't even get me started on their labour charge rates and what they actually pay their mechanics (they must have gold taps in the executive washrooms by now).

This time last year I bought a CRD Flow Control Valve (aka Intake Throttle) for a friend, from a reputable US online source. I recently ordered one for myself from the same source and the price had gone up $100USD with no explanation - take it or leave it.

Thanks guys, so I am not the only one getting ripped off here. Many thanks for the offer to send me parts from the USA, but I think you'll run into a nasty surprise when you try to order parts for a 2002 2.5 CRD. (I tried)

I found a very good source for VM parts: http://www.jnlengineering.co.uk/

They shipped me the T-stat for £93 ($146 US). They also have waterpumps (£192 IIRC) and pistons, rockers, T-belt kits...etc.

Thanks for the tip about the inline thermostat, sorry but I don't believe in them. The KJ has a bypass system and an inline T-stat does nothing for that...Neither do I want the MacGyver thermostat. The OEM one lasted 10 years...then $146 isn't that much...

Hi Tony. I am surprised that u are still even considering getting parts from Europe. Even with UPS/FedEx and the inland taxes, the parts are approx. Half or 3 times cheapper when I order from wholesalesmopar , USA, and their service is excellent. I replaced my MAF made in Germany: the parts was made in DE, flown to the USA, flown back to CH, and it was a third of the cost I was quoted here. The guys are nuts.... I will check your site in the UK. Cheers :SOMBRERO:

Buying parts for CRDs in Russia is even more of a ripoff. Just sold a set of rocker arms and lifters to a Moscow owner for less than $600. He told me that in Russia the rocker arm set alone is $1800 and there is a month wait for them.

Just had to order a new driver's side mirror ( many thanks to the local council for taking it off, and thanks to the local police for NOT following up the info given to them).
Phoned the only jeep dearler in Wales and they quoted me a price of £327.00 ( that's just short of $520.00) just for suppling it.
Thank god for the flea bay cost me £57.00 ($90 ish)and that was with 4 days shipping, and it turned up in 4 days.
Thank god for Flea bay USA.
never going to the dealer for parts again.
ATB
Alan.

Alan, why would you have a problem getting parts where you live?

Just head into town, borrow the Tardis and hop over the pond to get it in person! :jester:

Seriously, if you need anyone to send you anything, LMK. There are usually things from your side of the pond that I wouldn't mind getting shipped, or that are difficult to purchase here for one reason or another. In addition... I have a ridiculous collection of spares available for sale.

What? Is Fiat jealous they can't make a decent diesel like VM Motori? Kind of a sleezy way to undercut them.

Oh, you mean just like Mopar has done here in the states with both VM and Mercedes power plants they USED to install and sell? Seems that Daimler is a bit irritated at Mopar here for not maintaining parts stock for the GC CRD, making the owners grumpy and at least partly blaming Benz since it is their motor.

FIAT & GM jointly own VM, why would they want to under cut VM. Instead they will try to do to VM what Ford did to Vistion and what GM did to DelFi, Screw VM :!:

FIAT wants to pass off their $#it Box (100,000KM and scrap it) and call it a Liberty/Cherokee.
Here in the US the best thing about the FIAT 500 is Jennifer Lopez's commercial.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=deNRiBQiQ3Q
To put it polity, what is well packed in the back side of her pants is the best part of the commercial.
I can't wait until an Aftermarket Parts Supplier starts to sell a wind up key that attaches to the back.
Then they could have a contest to see which car looks best with the Wind Up Key, the Smart Car or the FIAT 500. :ROTFL: :ROTFL: :ROTFL: :ROTFL: :ROTFL:
