Hi all. Long time no post. My wife's jeep posted up a P1265 code the other day. Number 3 glow plug as long as the harness isn't reversed.

It still has the original ceramic glow plugs. I am aware of the update with the lower voltage plugs and new relay that also require a computer flash. I also seem to recall that there is a vendor testing metallic plugs that don't require a flash. That sounds good to me, but is the original relay available to go with them should a person ever need it?

Mostly, I'm looking for feedback from those who have gone down either road.

Etecno 7v metal glow plugs are a drop in replacement for the 7v ceramic. They are in production and available at http://www.dieselglowplug.com/gx3123-di ... kkhtcoiad0 Pre-production versions were sent out for installation and testing and I have not seen any forum posts of problems.

There is no need for a relay replacement as the stock relay used with the ceramics works just fine and is available if need be.

Thanks for the offer, but I am going to try to get away from the ceramic. I do appreciate the thought.

I hear ya. Staring down the barrel of that too. Not sure the two projects overlap that much, or do they?

Glow plug #3 and the timing job don't overlap at all, except for removing the belt. You have to pull the alternator (easy) and then the intake elbow... That is harder, unless your EGR tubing has accidentally "fallen out" somewhere along the line.

At 98k miles however... Change the timing belt. You can probably get away with only replacing the belt, $75 or so on Amazon. The hardest part of opening the thing up will be the fan removal. The timing tools can be rented from GDE for cheap, to set the cams correctly. Check the play (if any) or grease ejection on the idler pulleys and the tensioner... If the pulleys are smooth and tight, and they are clean... Then the bearings are just fine. Replace the belt and drive. These pulleys are the same type as the accessory idlers that MOPAR has used for years, and I have had them last 240k and counting.

It would be nice if GDE could stock those glow plugs stateside, or something like them anyways.
