Attention all fellow CRD owners! My 2005 Liberty CRD is in the shop for timing belt and water pump (99k miles). My mechanic told me that the water pump is on a national back order and that there were 101 orders ahead of me. Apparently, Chrysler is not giving a timeframe for when they will be available. Luckily, I have a cousin who's a diesel mechanic in England. I asked him to look for them and he said that they're in stock there. I'm putting in an order. Anyone else want one? Ian |

Have you tried http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sku/C ... 985AA.html ; they appeared to be in stock at check out yesterday although I did not try to order as I have one. Also check Crown direct. Alternatively RockAuto has a rebuild service at http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carco ... ttype,2208 No personal experience with either just tossing this out there. |

I wasn't able to find a water pump. I tried autopartswarehouse they showed stock. So I ordered and they called the next day to cancel. I looked high and low . No luck over sea's is the only place I now. |

Keep us posted on this. I hope that the unavailability is not a long term thing... or a sign of things to come. I am 38K from a timing belt service, which will put me, roughly, late Summer 2012. |

I'm having the same problem. We got in one water pump, got it installed, then the seller called and said it was a defective pump shipped out by mistake. For some reason, these seem be prone to shortages. |

Just find a rebuild service close to home.......these places are literally everywhere. Usually, any place that works on allot of semi trucks is a good place too start. |

I wasn't sure if this was common although I couldn't find a reference to a scarcity. Well, I've got a source for the hard to find parts in the US, but I'm not going to put his info out unless there's a demand for parts and he agrees to share his info. I've gotta watch out for family. I'm happy to be a member of your forum! Ian |

The castings are the hard and expensive things to replicate. |

We just rolled past the 100,000 mile mark and also have been informed that there is a national backorder. I would be interested in one from over the pond if it is a match and the price is comparable. |

My cousin's price for the Chrysler OE water pump is £177.71+tax and shipping. That's equal to $272.32! I don't know what the tax and shipping charges will come out to yet as I haven't officially ordered it but any way you look at it, that's a lot for a water pump! FYI; I had him price out cams (just to see) and for both cams (intake and exhaust) they were $544.95 and $546.14, respectively. Custom cam work would be cheaper than buying OE replacements! I've already had a needle bearing on a roller (rocker arm) go bad. If I hadn't have caught it I'd be in a heap of trouble! Keep your ear to the motor! |

According to a dealer contact that I spoke with this morning, the number of backordered water pumps is now 150. 70 units are due in on 01/20. No word yet on when the others are set to arrive. I've been gathering parts for my TB change. My mileage is currently 97K. If I need to change the belt and go back into it after the pump arrives, then so be it. The priority is the timing belt. I should get mine back from timing belt change next week. Planning on going back in a soon as I get a pump. Belt is most important! |

I suspect Chrysler burned some suppliers during the bankruptcy - so they're not as willing to stock extra parts until they have committed orders. Combine that with a lot of 05's/06's now hitting 100,000 and deciding to change the waterpump while doing the timing belt. hopefully it's a temporary thing. |

I would think that it is a VM pump that came from VM or one of VM's suppliers. I agree, seems that a lot of the 05-06's are near or over 100K now. The ones who know better are doing the timing belt now. Our local dealer gave me the "oh, I thought those had a chain, let me check" line... ![]() |

Quick update - I spoke w/ the moparpartsamerica folks today and they said the current backorder is supposed to be filled by mid-Feb. I can't wait that long so I'm thinking of going to rebuild route. Anyone used roackauto's rebuild service? |
