Couple of things for thought, rather than disconnecting the MAF sensor to keep the ecm from activating the egr, what would happen if you simply removed it from the airbox? Insulate it so that the heat did not hurt anything. The ECM keeps the heat constant and measures the airflow by how much the sensor is cooled by the air, at least that is my understanding of it. Seems if it did not sense any air flow it would think if was idling and keep the EGR closed all the time.
