So you are one of the ones using the chisel? I just had a CRD that the fan clutch had nearly been cut in half by chisel blows, and that very nicely jacked up the threads of the pulley too.

Violence may be faster, but it lacks finesse.

Those are not chisels, not even close.

They are hardened wrenches which do not damage the clutch, nut,or WP/holder in any way.

A long barrel hammer works better.

Keep the belt on,the only holding required.

I use this kit on a almost daily basis and it works better then anything else on the market.I have not had a clutch not come loose in 2-3 seconds at most, most cases it breaks loose after 0.5 seconds.

Ok, I re-read your post and I missed where you referenced the Lisle kit - For some reason I thought the long barrel hammer would have been with a chisel bit in it. The only power I had to use with this kit was the SDS, so obviously I lack the power driver to be successful with this set.

At least you aren't using chisels - I've had to work on more than a few that have massive divots in the nut that were put there by dealerships of all places. Just makes the job that much harder. This latest one was the worst though, the chisel hits were at the back end of the nut, so that I had to fight it all the way off. It didn't loosen up until just about falling off that last thread.

I use one of these to hold the pulley:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Motor-Fly-Whee ... SwgY9Xfxmq

I cut the protrusion from one side of each fork (same side) and hammered a length of 1/2" schedule 40 black iron pipe on to the handle to extend it. I put the protrusion into the holes of the pulley to hold it while I loosen the fan clutch nut with an open end wrench. It takes less than a minute to break it loose. It works better than the Lisle spanner that I first bought.
