My abs light came on a few days ago after taking a back road through some fairly deep snow/water. It has been on since and its kinda annoying since the cruise is disabled. Anyway i was just wondering if anyone had any easy places to check first? 2nd is will any code reader work with the crd?

thanks

Equus Innova 3160 ABS $193.54 from Amazon
It can do other stuff to, like real time and recordings of a few engine and vehicle parameters, graphed out on the display.

Could be 1 or more bad wheel sensors, is your odometer working?

Other than Starscan (OEM$$$$), Innova 3160 is the only affordable scanner that will read ABS codes on my '05 CRD. However, it will NOT read anything else. I use a 3030 for engine codes. I have nothing to suggest for trans codes. However, the '05 and '06 have slightly different electronic architecture. Some '06 owners can read engine codes with a 3160.

Sorry not to have better news.

trip/odo/ and speedo all work as normal.

Man thats a little pricey just to read an abs problem. The odd thing is before it trips the light for the first few yards i can panic stop and the abs system works as normal, until the light comes on and disables everything.

I had the same problem on mine. It was a short in the wire of the speed sensor on the rear pumpkin differential. There is a single sensor that is bolted onto the forward portion of the rear pumpkin. There are two wires coming from it. I thought it was a bad sensor so I purchased a new sensor. After replacing the sensor I was looking at the old sensor and the constant up and down motion of the rear axle caused a short in the wire. Word to the wise if you solder in a new sensor instead of just replacing the shorted wire make sure you watch the polarity. I didn't and upon testing I still had the light on. I reversed the wires and the light went out and has been working well for the last 30 k miles and counting. Hope this helps. Believe the sensor was held in with one bolt. ???

He has an 2006, so he has ABS sensors at the rear wheels and not on the differential like the 2005.

I'll have to stop in at a few local garages (not dealers) and see if they can read the code for me and go from there i guess. It wouldn't be a big deal if the cruise would work.
