I got my new wix filter. Hoping for some tips on replacing the filter. How do you know if you have the old style filter head or new style. Thanks for your help. |

I just did mine last month I took the whole filter head off. I disconnected the banjo bolts and unbolted it from the body and took the two electrical connections off. Then I took it off on the bench above the "fuel bucket" to let all of the diesel spill out. I used a plumbers wench to get it off the head. I changed the sensor on the bottom and filled it all the way to the top with ATF until it would hold no more then put the head onto the filter. Wiped it off and gently put back in the truck. If you have new crush washers you can change those now. Prime it start it, prime it and it should work great. Others results may very. |

I favor removing assembly from the firewall to change the filter, less mess. If you do be sure the push the fuel hoses off the fittings, don't try to pull them as they just grab tighter. You don't need to remove the hoses. - Unplug the electrical connectors. - Loosen but do not remove the filter. - Remove the filter head mounting bolts. - Continue to unscrew the filter until it is free but hold it in place. - Keeping the filter upright pull the head out of the way and lift the filter out. - Empty the filter back into the fuel tank. - Make sure the old o-rings are removed from the head and WIF sensor. - Ensure WIF sensor and new filter are sufficiently secured to prevent air ingress. |

Possibly but it depends on the tools at hand and how tight the filter is. When I last tried it the filter seemed like it was put on with an impact wrench and I could not get decent access to loosen the filter with the head mounted on the vehicle so I had to remove the head and chuck it into a vise to hold it while I removed the filter. |
