Post subject:  Vibration during deceleration 30 to 20 mph.

My 05 just started making a very strong vibration during deceleration between 30 and 20 mph. It seems to be most pronounced at about 22 mph. As soon as I give it a little throttle, the vibration disappears. It seems to be more noticable in 2wd, but I can still feel it in 4wd.

At first I thought it was the brakes, but it will vibrate even when I am not applying the brakes. If I put the shifter in neutral while slowing down, it still vibrates. No vibration when sitting still. No vibration at highway speeds.

My guesses:

4wd hub still engaged? I had this happen in a F350 years ago, but you could tell it was still engaged when turning. The Jeep seems normal when turning.

Motor mount going bad? If this is the case, shouldn't I notice vibration at idle when sitting still?

Transmission issue?

Torque convertor? I had the TC replaced by a Jeep dealer at 100,000 miles (now has 112k).

Any guesses?

See what I just posted at viewtopic.php?f=5&t=65191

Bad motor mounts don't have any symptoms at idle. Some have said if you pop the hood, pop the engine cover, and gun the engine in neutral that an observor of the engine compartment can see excessive twist to the engine and/or that clearance of the oil pan on the cross member can indicate a collapsed mount.

I had this exact symptom a few years ago and it was the rear u-joint.

I just had this same issue with my 05 KJ at around 150K miles. It was indeed a rusted and busted cap on my rear u-joint. I was able to repair it in less than two hours with minimal tools and $24 spent on parts.

Yes, U joint until proven otherwise
