I just recently changed my oil and switched over to Mobil 1 5w-40 TDT oil and I put 6.4 (slightly off...I put in 6qts plus 12oz) quarts in. I let it set over night to observe the fill level on the dipstick. This is where it was at: ![]() The level was high enough to just cover the "M" on "Min". That was on Wednesday. I re-checked the level this past Saturday and this was where it was at: ![]() The level had come down a tad so the the "M" in "Min" was visible. This was once, once again, after sitting over night in the same spot. I know the dipsticks are incorrect but I would have thought the first reading would have been correct after putting in a meaured 6.4 qts. Which level looks more accurate? I am trying to get the correct fill level down so if I have to add any oil between changes I get it to the optimum fill level without over filling. Also.....how much, if any, should I expect to have to add between changes on a 6,000 miles change interval? Thanks, Jim |

I use the WIX 51515 filter which is oversized. 7 qts puts me in the middle of the range on the dipstick. I end up just above the minimum after 6250 miles without adding any oil. |

After the initial oil change did you run the engine to fill the filter? The filter will hold quite a bit of oil which may explain your readings. Always run the engine for 30 seconds or so after the fill then let it sit overnight on a level surface. |

The filter I use is the Purolater Pure One filter that I believe is a standard size. After filling the oil, I backed the jeep out of the driveway of the garage and over to another spot that is more level as the driveway is sloped a bit. I wuld think starting the engine and driving it 20-30 yards would have filled the filter. I'll keep and eye on the level. Jim |

Yes it only takes a few seconds to fill the filter so you should be fine. I usually twist the dip stick around 360* before pulling it to ensure full coverage for the reading. I put in around 6.5 Liters in mine with the larger WIX filter. |

For those US folks who are conversion challenged - 6.5 liters is a hair shy of 6.9qts which is close enough to the recommended 7qts for the oversize filter. |

For me consumption is seasonal. I need to add about a quart midway in the winter. In the other 3 seasons it goes the full 6K without a topup but it will be on the min mark at that point. |
