I consistently get smoke every morning when I start the engine cold. It goes away immediately and doesn't happen again during the rest of the starts that day. The smoke has a blue tinge so I am thinking oil or maybe excess fuel?. Anyone know what it could be? It is slow to start maybe a couple of tries 5-10 seconds each. Thought it might has something to due with the glow plugs. I live on the Pacific coast so temperature is around 37F (3C) in the mornings.

Yes you are burning oil, diesel that is. Normal incomplete combustion on cold starts even if your glow plugs are working good. Sounds like your battery is getting weak and not supplying enough juice to starter and glow plugs.
