Hi all from sunny england, I would love to remove the egr on my 2003 KJ, It seems that over here its all differant to yours. i have no maf sensor in the inlet, and the egr valve is worked by vacume. does anyone know if removing the vacume pipe will cause a fault light?

On the 2003 CRD you should be able to just remove the vacuum line from the port and the EGR will be off without a CEL. Make sure to cap the vac line afterwards.

What GreenDieselEngineering said.
You will see a small solenoid on the RHS of the engine bay (drivers side in the RHD) behind the air-filter.
It has an electrical connector on it and a small pipe coming from the vacumn pump...another small pipe going to the EGR.
This solenoid has a small paper filter hanging from it.

The ECU on the early CRDs does not check that the EGR is actually operating...the ECU merely checks that the wires going to the solenoid are not open circuit or shorted so as long as you keep the solenoid electricaly connected you will not get a CEL.

The best way of disabling the EGR is to remove the small pipe on the outer edge of the solenoid....screw a small self tapping screw into the open plastic hole of the solenoid and replace the pipe over the screw head to hide it.

I have been running like this for some time now....performance at high speed on the open road seems much better. :D
