I found this topic:

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=39287

That leads me to believe it might be coming from around the alternator, but couldn't find out what it sounds like. The issue I'm experiencing starts a few seconds (10-15) after I start the Jeep. It goes away when I'm driving, but comes back when I stop and idle. I know it is almost impossible to explain but am going to try anyway as the videos I took of it didn't come out too clearly. It sounds like a high pitched cricket at times and a cyclical, "Reeeee.......Reeeee.......Reeeee.......Reeeee".

Here are the videos I took trying to capture the sound and of course the sound wasn't as annoying/prevalent as usual:

I'm trying to isolate this as I am about to have my timing belt changed out and would like to get this resolved at the same time. Any assistance would be appreciated!

Sound like the belt. But is could be the clutch on the alternator. Is the belt tensioner jumping up and down?

Check for red dust. That means the alternator decoupler is bad. Probably need a belt, too.

Thanks, I did some searches on the forum on checking the alternator for red dust and will give it a try tomorrow. I appreciate your help!

Two primary possible sources are viscous heater and alternator. Diagnosis:
1. for viscous heater - pull relay #R36 in the power distribution center to disable the viscous clutch also check to see if the clutch gets really hot. If the bearing is going or gone it can be replaced (bearing size is 35mm ID X 52mm OD x 22mm thick) see viewtopic.php?f=5&t=60567&start=20 but the coil cannot be. There is no harm running without the coil; the only downside is the cabin heater output won't rise as quickly. My viscous is disabled year round.
2. for alternator - LOTS of red dust as opposed to just a little is one sign. Another is to crank the vehicle up and then look down the serpentine/accessory belt toward its tensioner, may have to have an assistant raise the engine speed in neutral. If the tensioner is bouncing up and down the alternator clutch is gone and needs to be replaced before it destroys the serp belt and the somewhat expensive tensioner. If the tensioner is "leaning" to the side it's gone.

Papaindigo,

Thanks for your break down. I went outside this morning and took the engine shroud off to check for the red dust and assumed from what I read that it should be on/around the alternator pulley. I didn't see anything red aside from what looked like rust on what I assume was the A/C compressor on the bottom right side (facing the Jeep). The tensioner I believe to have identified on the left side of the motor didn't seem to be bouncing around too badly. The worst part is that for two days I cannot get the squeak to take place after having it happen consistently for 3 weeks. I've included another video with lighting to see if anyone can identify anything wrong on my serpentine assembly:

Because it is storming right now I will have to try your viscous heater relay trick when it stops. Thanks for your assistance!

At a glance your routing looks ok but if you want to double check there is a good illustration in the 2006 FSM that you can download from Sam's NOOB guide (you really need both 05 and 06 FSMs as the 05 lacks diesel cooling system info and general diagnostics but does have illustration keys while the 06 is the reverse). On that picture 10=viscous, 1 & 3=idlers, 2=alternator, 8=power steering pump, 7=tensioner, and 4=AC.

In your video you can see the front of the alternator at 0:45 and it looks clean BUT at 1:26 it looks to me like your tensioner is dramatically jumping up and down so something is definitely wrong. Normally I'd suspect the alternator clutch but both the viscous and AC are clutched so it could be them or you could have a bad or going bad bearing on an idler or some such or could be something wrong with the fan clutch. Whatever it is something is definitely not right; I just looked at my tensioner and at idle it just sits in essentially one position (e.g. effectively zero bounce) as opposed to yours which appears to be really bouncing if I'm seeing the right thing
