Post subject:  New EGR, then check engine for EGR

Hello,
I am new but have been lurking on the forums and have read Sams newb guide as well as a hundred other threads.

Long story short I'm about to pull the trigger on an 05 Limited Crd that runs and drives perfectly. The only issue is that there is a CEL for a bad EGR valve. The dealer replace the valve with a new unit and drove it 100 miles only to have the light come back on. They said that either they think they got a bad new EGR or that it may just need a good blow out to clear out build up from the old valve.

They said they would make good on the situation if I pick up the Jeep and the CEL doesn't eventually clear or I can wait another 3-10 days while they run some tests and possibly replace the valve.

My question is Does it sound feasible that it just needs to be driven and blown out or that they got a bad new EGR?

Thanks for any feedback you can give.

More likely, they are clueless about the EGR system, and replaced just the EGR while failing to also replace the FCV which is used to choke off the intake and force even more EGR flow. It is a big throttle plate with an electric motor and plastic gears, and the gears strip out constantly.

I would suggest getting it away from ANY dealership, and investigate buying an SEGR device from here - Or just forget about the EGR idiot light entirely and unplug the MAF as soon as you get out of the parking lot. You DO NOT WANT any EGR into your intake, that is absolute.

Thanks geordi,

I haven't purchased the jeep yet as it is for sale. I have the sale and pricing approved but am waiting to see what they come up with before I take delivery. I do agree with you that it is the FCV so I guess I will make them replace that too and then take it off their hands. I would rather know that the EGR/FCV system is new before I do any tuning or unplugging even though I know it doesn't matter.
