Post subject:  So Here's the Plan...
Okay, so here's my plan of action for the timing belt. I will be obtaining ownership of a CRD in a couple of days that's slightly over-due. I think I'm going to simply order the appropriate parts myself, rent the tools from GDE, and schedule a day with an experienced mechanic I know. He has lots of diesel experience, just not CRD, but is willing to work on it. I plan to show up with the downloaded service manual and step-by-step instructions from GDE's site and hang around and work on it with him since I want to have some idea of what's going on as well. I'm open to any comments, advice, or suggestions on this process.
I really don't have too many other options where I live, and I don't want to bring it to a dealership, but much prefer to bring it to a guy that won't mind me showing up with the parts I want and hanging around/helping so I can ask stupid questions, etc. Hopefully I won't regret this.

You might want to look at viewtopic.php?f=5&t=60858 and http://www.beesvillebeefarm.com/jeep.html for pictures and hints although both of these posts have steps that are not needed. Sam's involves removal of radiator and intercooler which is not needed but he had an intercooler to repair and the other post includes WP replacement so there are lots of extra steps.

TB is pretty easy especially with GDE tools - remove fan shroud/fan/TB front cover, rotate the engine until you can pin the cams and flywheel, place a bunch of witness marks on things like cams, crank and fuel pump to make sure nothing moves, remove old TB, install new TB (over left idler last - may have to slightly twick crank to get belt to seat), set tension, manually rotate engine at least twice double check marks and pins and reset tension if need be, briefly crank up before putting front back together, finish front cover and serp belt install. DIY taking it slow it's an easy 5 hours that probably could be done in 3 once you know what you are doing. You can replace idlers and tensioner as a matter of routine or if the bearings are solid and not weaping grease leave them in place, your choice. Same with water pump but doing the WP adds lots of time if you are doing it as routine (lots of chat on pro vs con re. WP replacement at 100K)
