I've got a 2005 jeep liberty diesel that's been in the jeep dealership shop 5 times in the first 5 weeks I've owned it and it's still not fixed. It's not costing me anything, the place I bought it from is paying for it,but it seems the dealership don't know what they're doing.I won't go into the things that are wrong with it here at this time, but I want to know if there's any GOOD jeep liberty diesel mechanics in East Tennessee or any where close?

Don't know of mechs in that area but if you post a good description of your issues maybe someone(s) on the forum can help.

Where exactly are you located and what are the symptoms? I'm not a mechanic but have been through my share of trouble shooting on my '06.

Morristown. It's at the dealership now,but if they can't fix it or if I have to start paying for it at some point I'm going to have to find a good mechanic. I'm not one:)
Things that are still unfixed:
1)Check engine light is on...This was the main issue. So far they've replaced 2 or 3 sensors,a couple of hoses, egr valve, they've not replaced the flow control valve yet. That will probably be done this time.
2)Electronic throttle control light comes on at times.
3)Temperature gauge goes up and down but never passed 3/4 of the way.Real worried about this.
I love this jeep. It's in perfect shape inside and out.It has a rebuilt engine that purrs like a kitten.I just want it fixed, which is why I'm looking for a good mechanic.

If you're not opposed to northern GA, Jasper Jeep is Jasper GA is pretty good. They do a lot of cummins work for dodge trucks so they have actual diesel techs. They're sort of out of the way (especially for you) so you may want to call and chat with them first.

Im in Johnson City and I hate to tell you but I don't know of anyone in this area who is familiar with the CRD :( I plan on doing my own maintenance and solving my own problems as they come up. The electrical issues are pretty lame, the dealer drones only do what their manual tell them to do and rarely think outside the box with the more complicated vehicles :ALONE:

Cool, another CRD owner close by. I'm up in Roan Mtn. I'm down in JC about every other weekend with the CRD.

I had the temp problem and installed an inline thermostat and housing. Took care of my heating issue without spending the money on a stock thermostat housing.

Comments:
1. would be good if you could get the codes they are chasing by throwing parts at the problem. There is a good chance the forum has a solution.
2. ETC light intermittent - I'd wonder about the 2 sensors down by the go pedal that control drive by wire but I'd think a problem there would throw a code.
3. temp gauge - does it "pulse" as in go above mid-line and drop back below mid-line especially during the first few miles, some Dodge Cummins did this more or less normally, but on the CRD I'd suspect a bad tstat or does it generally run slightly left of vertical except occasionally go higher in which case I'd suspect a bad fan clutch which is a know problem on the 05 (solution a Hayden severe duty clutch or Kap's fixed fan that I just installed)

Update!!!
Jeep is fixed. All I needed to get the check engine light out was a GDE full torque eco-tune.Everything is now pluged up and no check engine light. Here's everything I had done to get it reliable as per this sight.
1)The engine was completely rebuilt from the bottom out at 90,000 miles it now has 105,000 miles. This was done before I bought it ,but I did talk to the guy.
2)Intake taken apart and cleaned.
3)New egr valve.
4)New thermostat.
5)New throttle sensers.
6)New samco hoses.
7)New hayden fan clutch.
8)New Torqueconverters1 torqueconverter.
9)New lower control arms as per recall(I had to pay for this myself).
10)New bilstein shocks all the way around.
11)Numerous new sensers.
12)5volt glow plugs and relay.
The only thing left is in-tank fuel pump and fumoto valve and I'll be good for life.
Don't do like I did and wait so long to get that GDE full-torque Eco-tune.Mileage is about the same
but much better drive ability and no check engine light.
My thank's to all those who advised.

I'm in Smyrna, TN near Nashville. I'm tearing mine down next week, I finally found and purchased a VM.1085 so I didn't have to borrow one, and I'm doing Rockers/Lifters/Timing Belt/Tensioner/Serpentine, etc. next week.

I guess I could call myself a decent Jeep Diesel Mechanic after this....

First post, long time reader. I live in Knoxville and have an 06 CRD. Auto dynamics in Knoxville is a good place to go. They did my timing belt, water pump, etc change about a year ago, and just recently did a transmission dipstick tube replacement after mine broke in half behind the engine, how that happened I have no idea. They are honest and upfront, part costs have been less through them than what I've found on the internet. Their labor costs are not bad. I would highly recommend for something you can't tackle yourself.
