This might be a dumb question. Let's say, hypothetically, that a person were to have dropped their MAP sensor while cleaning it (most likely overcome with excitement at being a new CRD owner :D ) and part of the protective plastic cage that surrounds the sensor broke off, is this a part that can be just easily swapped out?

Go buy a new one, you do not want parts coming off it getting in to the engine. :(

X2. My parts notes say MAP (manifold absolute pressure - called air temperature/boost pressure sensor in parts manual) sensor (back top of engine under wiring harness) old # 5140331AA new # 68031593AA . Looks to be about $100+shipping on line.

Part is ordered. That was a pricey, stupid little mistake.

Funny how expensive the little ones can be as I well know from past experience.

You can buy it in regular auto shop.

Original MAP sensor for Liberty is made by BOSH and Bosh part number is 0 281 002 437 .

Buy it from Summit Racing for $65,95 instead of the Mopar part number 68031593AA from the Jeep dealer for $100.00
