Ok, so I now have about 110k miles on my '06 CRD and its outta warrenty, and I just had the TC go out. So I'm replacing it with the Suncoast TC and as I've been reading the other members posts, I'm noticing many other upgrades and Modification that other members have done and are doing to their CRDs. So far the only aftermarket changes I have done to my CRD is to install a K&N reusable Air Filter and to add a Fumoto Valve after a nightmare-ish F-UP on the part of Pep Boys nearly stripping out my stock aluminum oil pan due to cross threading the oil drain plug. I don't foresee myself off-roading to any extreme with my CRD other than the occasional camping trip and perhaps treading a rain gutted fire trail, but I do love stomping about in the snow. So I'm not looking to turn my CRD into an extreme Pre-runner (I have 2 CJ7s and a '93 ZJ for that) but I am into upgrading for perfomance with moderation. What would you suggest for a Street CRD that will be doing towing and has a nice balance between street and off-road performance? Since I will be having the new TC put on, should I have modifications done to the Tranny, Transfer case, or anything in that nieghborhood while it's up on the rack, and does anyone recommend know of a trusted shop in the Southern California who can do such work or upgrades on a CRD? Thanks |

The best modification for these tractors is GDE tunes, that's where I would start Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk |

How much was the Suncoast TC? I would do a PML tranny pan #11039 and a transgo kit if you are doing the TC, then a tune and exhaust. Do something about the EGR and CCV if you havent already. |

K&N suck in dirt and trash engines. Amsiol and Proguard 7 flow much better and keep the dirt out of your engine. Do the Transgo fix (unless you want to spend more on the front pump) along with the Suncoast. There are other tune options besides GDE like Inmotion Stage II like I have and Rocketchip that has a little more grunt. If you read what GDE publishes about their tune in respect to the EGR, they cut it back but do not eliminate it. I am one who knows that EGR is not good for the engine, it fries the oil vapor that is sucked into the intake and cokes up the intake ( I cleaned out my wife's TDI). To put it blunt, getting rid of the EGR is better than just cutting it back. Members who have to take emissions tests have sailed through by using Biodiesel and the EGR eliminated. ORM is a temporary way to shut off the EGR and I have used it for a long time, it leaves the check engine light on, that is the only bug. SEGR eliminates the EGR when you want no EGR, if for some strange reason, you wish to turn it back on, the bypass plug is included. Turbo Tim invented it and UFO assembles them. I bought my,"KIT" from LocoCRD on a neat printed circuit board, just solder in the components. My first go around SEGR was hard wired and looked like a Rat's nest. I will install the SEGR KIT when I get it put together. Some of the GDE users have plated off the EGR and believe they have no problems. Another aspect of the tunes are that GDE advances the timing a little more and eliminates the pilot injection, where Inmotion and Rocketchip do not advance the timing as much and keep the pilot injection. I don't gamble, even when I have a project at a Casino and choose my mods for the longest longevity and lowest risk. When I was younger, I played around a lot with injection timing, injection pump advance curves, injector cracking pressure, and compression ratios on diesels all to get more fuel economy or performance. |
