So my CRD upgrades and maintenance are coming along pretty well. MAP cleaning and ORM are done, I changed the air filter and oil yesterday, the timing belt parts and new Samco CAC hoses are the in the mail as we speak. The timing belt job likely will get done next weekend, and assuming this all goes well (knock on wood), I'm looking for advice on what to start thinking about/saving for next. This will be a daily driver but occasionally pulling a trailer in the 1100lb for long distances. Due to my vehicle shifting at 61mph I assume I unfortunately have the F37 re-tune. What should be my next step, upgrading the torque converter or the getting GDE Eco tune? I plan to eventually do both but I need to start spreading the expenses out a little bit more. Thanks in advance. |

I was in a similar position with most of what you have done and deciding between new torque converter or GDE Eco Tune. I went with the tune and have my fingers cross on the torque converter. I tow, but like you, its a light trailer but with lots of steep grades. So far (~10k miles), so good. I recommend GDE Eco Tune. |

If you plan on towing, definetaly torque converter first, the crd has more than enough power the way it is even stock, but the torque converter dosent. For sure with the gde tune it becomes an awesome little machine, far better than stock, but if you want a safe bet,do the tune in second, that way you could choose any of the tunes, instead of being stuck with the eco tune, you could safely take the full torque or even the hot tune without any worrys! And the trans tune to! And that way you are looking at long term reliability. Many did the tune first and never had problems, but many others did have shuttering transmission not long after the tune, this is why i prefer the safe way... |
